I know you could see the aurora all over the place but did it actually cause any damage anywhere?

[–] [email protected] 49 points 10 months ago (2 children)

As far as I'm aware, it caused some temporary GPS interruptions but no permanent damage this time.

I was traveling across the state on those two days, so I was worried about GPS getting weird, but we didn't have any issues.

From what I read it affected some farming equipment, I figure it was relatively local interference and not a global thing too.

lost mobile data for a pinch but its back now

Apparently it "disrupted" Starlink, but hasn't permanently destroyed any of their satellites like the CME in 2022 did.

Gotta love the censorship in a science community.

Exhibit A

If you'd like to see gore porn spam, there are other places for that lmao.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I wouldn't. But it's censorship, how am I supposed to know since it's literally censored. There's no reason listed as to why.

Look at the usernames. They are very concerning

[–] [email protected] 9 points 10 months ago

Did not notice that.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Enlighten us on the delightful things those usernames might say across several threads at the same time.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Just in case you don't see my reply to someone else... I missed the usernames entirely. My bad.

Also, these did have removal reasons. FYI: Mod logs are open on Lemmy. Check the bottom right sidebar and click on mod logs. It should be the last link on the sidebar. Mods probably won't label comments outright here as some did on Reddit, as the feature is open. Here are the logs for this community, assuming you are on mobile: https://mander.xyz/modlog/27914. If you see "nuke," I am separating bickering chatters. :) 1 page of logs is pretty good for the active userbase numbers, so hats off to @[email protected]. I do not think we can edit these after the fact (? if so, Sal can you change that "bring" to "nuke" lmao).

You'll see we do not remove much, and mostly, it's spam or breaking up fights. I'm just here to pick up the spilled cups after the party ends and I like to let people talk out their differences. Our server is quite small, so sometimes it takes time to sync removals, etc. If it is blank via your server in the future, you may need to visit the community's homeserver page instead, if that makes sense, as things have not caught up. I tend not to remove things because life is complicated, and sometimes you just need a damnit doll, and that is kind of our role at times. And frankly, I think communities should develop organically like the old days.

Maybe take the time to learn before reacting with ragey bullshit. Who am I kidding with a name like yours you aren’t here to learn lol

We all have room for self improvement.

Just gonna put this album here.

edit: Well, I'm surprised this got downvoted considering the entire theme of the album is a CME knocking out telecommunications and computer systems on earth leading to a total collapse of human society. Just a fun thing I came across and was reminded of with all the solar flare memes lately.

Wish I could have seen it :(
