Speaking in Kyiv, Mr Blinken said Washington has the power to seize Russian assets in the US and will use them to help rebuild Ukraine.

He also said that Ukraine is getting "closer to Nato".

Earlier, the top US diplomat told Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky that military aid is "now on its way".

"What Putin destroyed, Russia should - must - pay to rebuild. It's what international law demands. And it's what the Ukrainian people deserve," Mr Blinken said during his speech at Kyiv Polytechnic University.

"Our Congress has given us the power to seize Russian assets in the US, and we intend to use it," he said.

I wonder what his position is on who should pay to rebuild Gaza ....

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 year ago

I'm sure there's any number of land developers that would love to rebuild it. After all the Palestinians are dead, of course.

I'll take shit that isn't going to happen for $1000, Alex

Sorry it is going to take a lot more than a grand to rebuild.

Yeah, but not ceding the expectation is important.

I guess usa must pay to rebuild irak, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Somalia first?

Did you miss the entire occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan? Billions were spent on rebuilding those countries, but the Taliban and Iranian backed militias destroyed a lot of it.

I noticed that you mentioned Syria, which was a civil war that no one mentions anymore. It was part of the Arab Spring and didn't really involve the US. The only people who care about Bashar Al-Assad are his cronies in Syria, his Iranian supporters, and the Russian government (which supported him because they have a navy port in Tartus).

Are you an Iran supporter or a Russian?

They spelled Iraq with a K, it's probably safe to assume you're tilting at a windmill but nonetheless it's good to oppose straight up stupidity.

I speak several languages little fella, it’s IRAK in my language. How many languages you guys from the American empire speak?? 😂😂😂

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Personally, only three, but they're not hard for English speakers to learn. Most Americans only speak English though.

When you refer to America when typing in English, do you say États-Unis or Estados Unidos?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Most of what you said is correct, but didn't we drone strike the shit out of Syria?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

And when we weren’t drone striking the shit out of them, we were giving Turkey the weapons needed to fight them on the ground, for some reason

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Do not believe the American propaganda media, usa did nothing just loot those countries.

To answer your question, I’m Western European 😉

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

We’re going to force them with … weak sanctions and sternly worded letters.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah yes, like we did in 1918 with Germany. That solved all future problems

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Solving all future problems is not the goal of reparations. I wonder why you specifically chose WWI btw, didn't WWII also have reparations?

[–] morhp 4 points 1 year ago

After WW2 it was more like they split Germany into parts and "occupied" the remaining industry and workforce for reparations. There wasn't much of the original Reich left that could've paid reparations.

WW2 was about containing the USSR. Even before Germany fell Churchill was warning about Russia. He wanted to free Eastern Europe before the Soviets got there. But the Americans cared more about glory and wanted to capture Berlin so Eastern Europe was abandoned.

Even after WW2 there was talk of invading Russia.
