This comic was drawn by Tom Toro and was originally published in The New York Times on November 25, 2012.

More like "Yes, the planet got destroyed, but we smart rich people stockpiled enough resources so that it's only your problem, peasant. Fuck you."

[–] lugal@lemmy.ml 40 points 10 months ago (4 children)

Or at least we thought we did until we realized that our money became worthless and we couldn't pay our guards anymore

The smart ones will have their sons and daughters intermarry into the families of the guards. Whether or not their pride will allow them to actually do that is another thing. That and there is a chance the guards will probably just takeover anyways. That or a well armed raiding group will take em out.

a well armed raiding group will take em out.

A better paid bunch of goons from a wealthier corporate oligarch will take them out.

Okay but you need to keep the philosopjer ruling class separate from the guard lower class.

True, it'll be my thing first then yours. But one thing the OP gets wrong is that they will absolutely never admit that it's their fault.

[–] lugal@lemmy.ml 2 points 10 months ago

Arguably, the meme doesn't say he admits it's his fault. All he says is the planet got destroyed and using passive voice is a trick to disguise the actor. It is often used that way

Remember: you don’t have to be smart to be rich.

Helps even more to be a sociopath, which tend to have a lot of manipulation skills.

They’re still no match for a tightly knit community, which capitalism and government regulations have all but eliminated.

I think about this one often.

This isn't accurate at all. The kids won't survive the collapse of society.

there was a time when keeping money in a savings account, uninvested, didn't mean you were actively losing money

The inflation rate has just about always been positive (besides a few rare years in the 1920s and 1930s). Holding dollars has always lost you buying power. Its just that in recent years, the rate of inflation has been enough for more people to notice.

I believe there's a bunch of stock bros thinking "I'm gonna be that guy!" and going full speed ahead towards making it happen.
