Even if I end up hating it, I think overall this is a good thing as it'll help introduce more people to federated social media.

A nice place to discuss rumors, happenings, innovations, and challenges in the technology sphere. We also welcome discussions on the intersections of technology and society. If it’s technological news or discussion of technology, it probably belongs here.

It's probably a good idea to limit/defederate with this when it shows up, as it's a vector for EEE and Meta will be doing the usual data collection shit they do with their users, but now with Fediverse users as well. They just got hit with a big fine for violating the GDPR.
Yeah, I hope they're pretty much de-federated. I wish them and the users of their platform the best, but I don't want to contribute to feeding that beast.
No.
Easiest question of my life.
I can't trust big tech to do anything remotely good anymore, after what's happened with... well, basically every single social media platform owned by them. I'm sure I'll take a peek at it but I haven't touched Facebook or Instagram in years for several reasons, so I really don't want to give Meta any more of my attention.
I hope they get defederated immediately. There's not much more Facebook can do to prove they are a bad faith actor.
Oh, eww. A Meta/Twitter mashup? No. Just no.
I loathe Facebook, although my church uses it, so I'll grudgingly check it once in a blue moon. Never quite got the whole Twitter concept. Used Twitter intensively only once or twice for simulcast commentary back when the Sharknado series was a thing. And found I could sometimes get faster customer service on (for instance) airline snafus, when company portals were unresponsive, and phone queues required waiting through 3 hours of drecklich Muzak.
I've got all Meta IPs blocked at DNS level via PiHole on my LAN. I'm not that crazy to click the disable button. The gates of hell will remain closed in my house.
Hahaha. No.
No matter what Meta will be releasing I'm not touching it with a long pole.
Nah. I'm on Mastodon. If they use AcitivtyPub and are accessible, all well and good. But I'm done with the corporate ad-supported web if at all possible, and there is literally no way Meta/Facebook won't try to leverage people's posts/information for advertising.
Absolutely no way. I want as many firewalls as possible between me and the crap they pull so I'll move instances if any I'm on federate with a Meta platform.
Yeah, that's a no. Meta has no home in my life.
Oh gods no, that's one of the only companies who would make an even more toxic mess of a platform. I'll stick with the fediverse, thanks.
Hard pass. Twitter is a toxic cesspool and this one will no doubt turn out the same. The fact that it's Meta is an even bigger turnoff.
No. I don't want to go anywhere near that company.
I never had any desire or need for Twitter in the first place, so no. Corporate or not, I just don't get what people like about that style of social media.
It'll be funny watching Elon freak out over it, but no I don't want to participate in Zucks data farm.
I deleted all of my Meta-owned accounts a long, long time ago. I will never seriously use any of their social media platforms again.
And give more power to Facebook? No. Sorry, I still call meta "Facebook." I kind of an old head despite being young.
I just closed the two pipes Meta used to suck my life into their databases (FB and IG) and I am not likely to open a new one.
Nope. I am done with anything corpo at this point
Not a chance, I use Facebook only for groups (have rats so in a few niche groups), and the Meta quest headset since it was what I could afford for VR and it's standalone (shame it's not owned by oculus anymore). Other than that I refuse to use metas products and have never felt the need for twitter.
I will probably test it out to see it, but I doubt I’ll use it for long.
My Twitter was pretty small and mostly just friends and news organizations that I followed, then I pretty much abandoned it for Mastodon. I “use” Facebook but mostly just to lurk and see pictures of friends’ kids.
Meta is in it for profit. So you have to ask what they’re stand to gain by offering a federated service (presumably for free). Do they think they can get free data, perhaps? I have no idea, but it’s tempting to want to block them just in case. Costing ActivityPub maintainers money so you can steal user data to sell for money isn’t exactly ethical…
I’m trying to think generously, but struggle to imagine other ways they might be able to profit off the Fediverse.
After how pleasant I'm finding Lemmy, if I ever get the urge to join a short-form social site I'll use Mastodon.
Facebook is literally the last company I would join for this.
Heck no
My take on this:
If it didn't support ActivityPub: Why would I? I could just use twitter. If it does support ActivityPub: Why wouldn't I just use Mastodon that is ad free and doesn't try to invade my privacy?
I'm banned from Facebook so... probably not
HARD PASS
I don't even have meta/ig account
Thank you but i would rather chew off my own arm than be under the thumb of Meta again. It's bad enough that my tattooers are on Instagram, the only thing i use my account for since years and i have to have Messenger to chat with friends; i refuse to engage with any more Meta shit
I never really used Twitter to begin with, minus to follow some news, protests, and a few NBA players. I wouldn't mind Twitter having some competition though so I could drop it entirely!
Roflmao!
No.
I've never really liked Twitter and couldn't get behind it. I've also never used Mastodon, but from a glance it appears to be a twitter replacement? Why not push that instead of Meta bullshit?
Fuck no!
Intresting... not gonna touch it, but still.
