Here's everything we know about it so far:

  • It will use ActivityPub.
  • It will be a side app of Instagram.
  • It will most likely be called Threads.
  • Your Instagram verification status will transfer over.
  • There will be easy discovery tools in place: Your Instagram followers will be able to follow you on Threads as well (they won't transfer over automatically).

What do you think?

I've never really liked Twitter and couldn't get behind it. I've also never used Mastodon, but from a glance it appears to be a twitter replacement? Why not push that instead of Meta bullshit?

Lol fuck no. Look how well corporate centralized platforms have worked out.

Thats a big FUCK NO

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Absolutely not, Facebook is one of the worst big tech companies out there.

Absolutely not, I deleted all contents from this trash company and don't want to be part of it anymore

Wait, so you're saying it's the same like here but with more big corp, data farming, ads, CEOs and lots and lots of profit for them?

Ahhhh, nope not for me, but thanks anyway!

I'm not sure who I trust less to run a social platform -- muskrat or bookface.

Why would you join when you can just follow the accounts that interest you on it from Lemmy or Mastodon/Pleroma/Akkoma/etc ???

No thanks; I'm interested in seeing what they come up with as competition is generally a good thing, however, I have zero interest in being a product anymore.

It seems to me that the only reason Meta would embrace ActivityPub is so they can federate and scrape our data from the fediverse. Not only would I not use their platform, but I would block my instance from federating with them.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I might have a lurker account. Honestly, in the short time i've been on the fediverse it would have to be very compeling to do so. It's much better here.

I will likely snipe my username and that's about it

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I can only handle so many social sites at once. So no, I will not.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Nope. Musk is an evil moron, but Meta isn't better.

That said, I never used Twitter either.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

In the end it is just choosing a different overlord.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Naaah, never.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Fuck no. I'm not touching anything Facebook ever again.

No to anything by Meta/Facebook. The platform that refused to show me what I subscribed to and tried to constantly jam pointless political rubbish down my throat, then effectively disabled my account when I removed my data.

I'm also blocking them if they appear in my Mastodon feed.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

nope, I never joined or went on Twitter

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I might set it up, since I already use Instagram, but I'm not sure how much I'll use it.

  • I already have accounts on mastodon.social and jorts.horse, so what's the point for me?
  • I wouldn't be able to post to Threads like I do to Twitter since my family are all on Instagram. They wouldn't get it.
[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I haven't used a Meta product (or twitter) in years. I have no plans on going back. Neither of these businesses inspire confidence.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Not very interested, except if everyone I follow on twitter goes there (which I doubt would happen, as they're already cloning all their tweets on mastodon). But it would sure be nice to have a twitter that's not run by fucking elon musk. Meta aren't saints but they've never implemented absolutely dumb decisions as far as I know, nor does its CEO keep spouting nonsense and trying to be the center of attention at all times. I won't ever install a Meta app on my phone, but I still think I actually prefer Zuckerberg over absolute clowns like Musk or Spez.

This is from the company that weights anger five times higher than likes for its algorithm. The one that is trying to force feed me "shorts" with no ability to opt out. So much of the Facebook experience is non-consensual. I wouldn't touch another platform from them.
