Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Does your memory get wiped at each loop or do you remember all previous loops?

Either way you should watch season 2 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya to see how different people handle time loops.

how different people handle time loops.

Wake up, maggot!

Russian Doll was pretty awesome about that.

This was such a great time loop movie

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Hah is that when it went out of order? Or was that s1 and s2 was just just jùst the same.

The very beginning? How about skipping the flight and all the hassle that comes with airports. Pro tip: Start the time loop when you wake up at the hotel instead.

Depends on the trip. Part of the joy of arriving is the journey you just endured, so might be worth keeping that in just for the existential exhale you get when you arrive.

Besides, I don't have to follow the same routine every time. Sometimes I could enjoy my flight, sometimes I could skip it! The only missing element is the time machine, of course.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago (2 children)

If you have a time machine can't you essentially take a vacation at any resort in any time period? Why limit yourself

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago

I guess you're right. The main idea was to avoid coming back to work!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Can you only go to where your are now at different times or to places/times in your own past? It's only a time machine, not a location transporter, right?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Even if it doesn't change locations for you, it does more or less guarantee money is no object (since you could time travel, invest, then go to the future and collect the interest) so you could afford to travel wherever. If you go back far enough I suppose you'd start to run into issues where it takes weeks to cross the ocean or whatever. But that would probably be a less desirable time to vacation. I get future resorts are even better.

Nooo. You wanna start before the plane ride so you can just not board if that's what you want. Then ya grab a different flight with money you don't need to go to a place you've never been.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

Oh that’s good idea if you want to visit multiple places. If you’re doing a one month loop, that would be a good way to do it.

However, if you’re doing a one week loop instead of, you really don’t want to spend 1/7th of your time traveling.

I don't know if killing Hitler would automatically lead to a better world. What if they had a leader who was not so dumb and attack the soviet union? It could be like in Stephen Kings 11/22/63 where he prevents the assassination of Kennedy but then the future is much worse.

WW2 was already bound to happen after the treaties of Versailles and Saint-Germain. Hitler also didn't found the NSDAP or invent antisemitism. We of course don't know what would have happened without him, but the near future after WW1 wouldn't have been bright either.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Not necessarily, Germany could have become socialist.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

WW2 was bound to happen anyway. It wasn't about a party, it was about everyone in Germany and Austria being extremely unhappy with the dictated treaties of Versailles and Saint-Germain. It only was a matter of time.

PS: Attacking France didn't make much sense militarily (better to focus on other countries), but beating the French (who played a major role in the treaties of Versailles and Saint-Germain) was something that greatly motivated everyone to keep going.

I hate vacations. So I can't agree.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 8 months ago (2 children)

That's fine, you'll be responsible for killing Hitler then.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

And everyone lived happily ever after!
Well, except ol' Hitty.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

You have children don't you?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)
