These are quite common centre structures in English castles, whenever I visit one the guides invariably tell the story of a left-hand rail designed so a descending English knight can strike the French invader with his strong sword wielding right arm. I'm not sure if it's a myth...

Definitely worth a repost, the blue and the fabric are incredible work for gouache and watercolour.
