I'd do it myself but unfortunately I'm banned from Reddit and any new account gets banned in minutes.

Can you lot pull your finger out yer arse and start commenting in UK subs to "come to Lemmy".

Nice one, cheers.

Why?

No, seriously. Why?

Reddit is doing fine without the 3rd party app refugees. Lemmy is doing OK without thousands of lurkers. Spamming is just going to annoy people.

Post some memes. Stop letting Reddit live in your brain rent free.

How ddi you get banned from reddit?

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 years ago (1 children)

My 16yo account was permanently suspended for "being created to circumvent a subreddit ban". I'm not a time traveller so I'm not sure how that's possible.

Now any new account I create is seen as an attempt to circumvent my suspension so I'm permanently blocked from creating an account.

I did appeal and asked how a 16yo account could have possibly been created to get round a subreddit ban. It was denied.

I've created 3 accounts since and each time it gets banned after a few hours/days by some automated admin process.

I COULD sign up via VPN but I really can't be arsed now. I fucking hate that site and the admins are draconian. 16 YEARS I never caused a bloody ripple then some idiotic administration fuck up* means I get locked out and buggered by a spiked dragon dildo.

*I have a 'conspiracy theory' it has something to do with a mod on 2westerneurope4u - he banned me from the sub and claims to have direct comms with the admins (similar to awkwardtheturtle). It was 2 days after he banned me my admin/site ban happened.

TLDR: Reddit are cunts.

How do they keep catching your new accounts? Are you using a VPN or masking your e-mail or both?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago

Probably to do with fingers in arses. That was an OnlyFans that went too far, even for Reddit!

Rexxit means Rexxit.

When I've done it it usually gets deleted (in particular the r/casualuk scabs seem to always delete them even when relevant to the discussion), I'm not sure what more I can do.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago

Try it on r/okmatewanker - it's the pisstake more-casual-than-casualUK sub and they think CasualUK mods are wankers. So you may have more luck there.

I have no proof of this, but I suspect reddit itself is removing mentions of alternatives. Given they've take to posting fake app reviews and having bots post comments, it wouldn't surprise me.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

I've noticed posts where I promote lemmy have had the votes switched off quite often. I imagine there's no limit to how low they'll stoop.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

After the blackout, comments at r/casualuk even questioning why they're reopening were speedily deleted along with all the announcements and trace of the blackout. Going by that, I think the mods there have well and truly sold out. I'm sure Reddit are removing them too but that mod team in particular have stooped very low.

We could always, like, crowd fund an ad on there. Now before you reach for the pitchforks, bear with… Firstly, it would be very funny, and entertainment usually isn’t free. And secondly, they’d have to actually run the ad if they wanted any money. Grab a screenshot of it before it gets removed and you’ve got an NFT. Or the new instance banner.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago

I think reddit does a pretty good job of promoting Lemmy on its own.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago

Nah, I'm good. If they find it and decide to take the time to figure it out, then good. I'm ok if we don't immediately kill this thing with reddit stupidity.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

An alternative way (on subs you were really active in) is to post a 'Goodbye' with directions to find you on Lemmy/Kbin. It's a bit less accusatory/demanding, I think and less likely to get deleted.

I would love to, but I have closed my account after being banned from numerous subs. Five of these subs I wasn't even subscribed too, or even posted in them.

I will have a think of other places to promote the place, but I am in so few communities that I'm not sure what is left?

Then again, I did use up all my brain power with the idea of the banner. That does look amazing. So can I be excused from this game please? /s

How do you get banned from a sub you weren't even in?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I wish I knew more, but apparently it's quite a common thing. Mods that have too many subreddits will just ban you from other subreddits. I think mine may have been due to 'Left' leaning politics and being British. As they were very American orientated subreddits, and pretty conservative from what I recall.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Sometimes it's just that certain subreddits got brigaded a lot by users of another subreddit, so it was reasonable to proactively ban people as they were much more likely to do more harm than good. Usually, if that was the reason, you could ask to be let in via modmail.

Reddit never produced the brigade detection and prevention tools they were promising a decade ago, so if there was a big enough problem, the only options were some pretty blunt instruments.

Easy to circumvent. If you can be arsed, go get UTM or Virtualbox, either virtualise Windows or Linux, install an OS then run a vpn inside the VM. They are probably fingerprinting you with cookies or machine id

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago

Banned too. Soz mate. Can't help

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Yeah I kinda wish I'd dropped a line before deleting my account, r/casualUK is my jam

There are quite a few communities I'd love to see migrate, and I'll be posting a few messages if I see a non-spammy chance. I won't be randomly commenting on all posts though, that's a way to get banned.

Of the communities with no equivalent here yet, some are just continuing with posts as normal (so I could post), while others have been dark since the protest, so no way to ping them.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I have dropped the occasional message in, like on the Screen Unseen sub which had only just been recreated after the original blacked out and never returned. So it was already in its infancy and folks might as well move over here.

Maybe set up your account in Tor, if you're being banned via monitoring which IP address you're using?
