Summary

Trump vowed to direct the DOJ to “vigorously” pursue the death penalty for violent offenders after Joe Biden commuted the sentences of 37 federal death row inmates.

Biden’s decision, aimed at halting federal executions, drew mixed reactions: victims’ families expressed both support and anger, while death penalty opponents urged Biden to extend clemency further.

Trump criticized the commutations as undermining justice and pledged a return to “Law and Order” during his presidency, reigniting debate over capital punishment.

No platform whatsoever. Literally his only game plan is to antagonize every single policy the Democrats make the world a tiny bit better with.

If Biden made a PSA about how playing Russian roulette is bad, we'd get President-elect Vance tomorrow. And given how blindly these lemmings follow, perhaps President-elect Johnson the day after that, etc.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 months ago

Nah, his platform also includes enriching himself and other super rich people.

But I was just at my in-laws and Fox told me he has plans! So many plans! No details available, but they assured me he definitely has plans!

"America will be a Law and Order country!" says convicted criminal President.

"Violent offender" includes "rapist of a 13 y.o. girl"?

We both know there's gonna be separate standards for the in group (them) and the out group (all the rest of us). Hell, here's an in group member who got 10 weekends in jail for that exact crime earlier this year. But, they'll arrest us for providing food to people who need it. (Dayton 2024) (Houston 2023) The laws are already there in some cities, why not make it federal law and make the punishment severe.

Republicans have been trying to make being trans punishable by death for ages. The play usually involves two steps: the first is to brand trans people as sex offenders, and the second is to allow death sentences for sex offenses.

Florida tried to take it a step further by reducing the numbers of jurors in agreement for a death sentence from unanimous to 9. Usually they try to add something about trans kids to make it "child sex offenses" too.

Yes, but only when it's not from the ruling class

These people are so predictable and unoriginal. "Fiercely oppose wherever the opposition is doing and vow to accomplish the opposite" is their entire platform. Their entire ideology is reduced to devout contrarianism.

Tiny man gets a really tiny hard- on from ordering others to kill for him.

Napoleon, Hitler, Mussolini, Putin the list goes on.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

Can we not insult Napoleon with those comparison, he was at least an actual improvement upon the French Kings and was an actual follower of the enlightenment. All other factors aside he is moreso in the same area as men like Cromwell or Caesar.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

He probably wants to do what his disgusting saudi prince piece of shit friend does and make executions public

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

You're actually not wrong

He is emulating dictators and has been for the past few years

The point isn't justice. It's to make people scared to try to overthrow him. Then he can pursue the death sentence and set an example

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago

Actually yes, this is something a lot of GOP hardliners have been crowing about for decades. I remember a decent amount of people who wanted a public hanging for the 9/11 guys.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Without performative cruelty, what's left of Trumpism? Incompetence, corruption and preening?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

You forgot outright refusal to engage with reality.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago (3 children)

What the fuck is Joe Biden's problem? "I need to save degenerate murderers from the death penalty because the death penalty is barbaric and uncivilized, and I need to give Israel more bombs to kill children." What kind of moral triangulation is this? Who is it for?

[–] [email protected] 65 points 3 months ago

Are you mad at the right things?

[–] [email protected] 60 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Remember, solving any problem while not solving every problem is a complete waste of time and it’s better to do nothing.

[–] [email protected] 43 points 3 months ago (3 children)

What problem do you have with the idea that no one should murder anyone in cold blood? The death penalty doesn't even lower violent crime as you can see by comparing the US with Europe or even states inside of the US. (and yes, Biden is an hypocrite but doesn't excuse you being one too)

[–] [email protected] 18 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

I think OP is asking for moral consistency.

Commuting sentences for people on death row is all well and good (yet it's problematic if you're still making exceptions within that cohort), but if you're enabling a genocidal campaign that includes bombing hospitals and starving children on the other hand it's kind of weird to find a consistent line in the thinking of this President.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago

The consistency lies in that America is his country and the bomb delivery is just a deal for money. America always sided with Israel regardless of what heinous crimes they commit.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I am not advocating for the death penalty. I am pointing out the moral absurdity of killing day old infants with their entire families and then pretending to act magnanimously towards convicted murderers. It either means that this has nothing to do with the sanctity of human life in Joe Biden's eyes or that he is a complete schizophrenic.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Biden's leaving office in a few weeks. I'm sure you'll apply this same unflinching demand for moral consistency to Trump.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

You don't apply moral standards to your enemies, you just beat them. And you certainly don't accomodate them or adopt their policies.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

What problem do you have with the idea that no one should murder anyone in cold blood?

what problem do YOU have with it, when oc points to hypocrisy regarding israel support?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

I would love to see him get the death penalty, but then again, it's kinda funny seeing Americans complain after doing this to themselves.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

It's the only thing that the department has done vigorously in two decades.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

I wonder if he was at half-mast while saying this...
