DisplayPort is the better product but has lost out to HDMI. I’d be fine if it was discontinued.
HDMI only won on TVs. DisplayPort is the clear winner on PCs.
Are there any TVs with DP?
It's very rare and you certainly won't find it on anything affordable. I wish they would start putting DisplayPort inputs on TVs. They had VGA inputs back when TVs had more than 2 inputs on them.
They never gone do that for obvious reason,let's look who created and who are on the list of HDMI group...Lattice Semiconductor, Maxell, Matsushita Electric Industrial, Philips, Sony, Technicolor, TOSHIBA big players of TV so they created their own proprietary standard spread it on the market and u have to pay money for licensing manufactur to install it in ur device such as TV boxes, videocards and etc.Meanwhile display port is open standard which even technically dominate HDMI about speed of transfer and other things.
They never gonna do that, voluntarily. Forcing capitalism to act in the best interests of consumers is the governments job. Capitalism without regulation is authoritarian dictatorship.
Yeah my old TV has VGA, component, composite, s video and RF inputs. I almost feel bad getting rid of it.

The sad part is how using DP on your TV, if you find it, is shunned by Netflix and will not allow you to play 4K content.
They rely on some form of DRM protection which is available in HDMI.
Absolutely crazy. I really wish HDMI would not be such an omnipresent standard among TVs...

I wonder what the situation is with laptops. HDMI seems to be the standard and DP an additional thing that's around sometimes, often through another port.
Do projectors commonly have DP or are they more often HDMI? I think TVs, screens and projectors having HDMI is the reason laptops have HDMI over DP.
There are projectors with DisplayPort, but HDMI and VGA are more common. Laptops usually use the USB-C DP alt mode to output DisplayPort signals. HDMI requires a separate port. USB-C can output HDMI, but very few devices support it and it will never be updated past HDMI 1.4.

The history of tech is littered with superior standards but in this case go look at any video card. We haven't lost out just yet.

Every device that has a DisplayPort also has hdmi. Not every device that has hdmi also has a DisplayPort. DisplayPort clearly lost.
Incorrect? I have multiple devices that have DP and no HDMI. I also manage hundreds of devices at work that are the same. Your stance seems to be held up by ignorance.
Nah, I also manage hundreds of devices and managed thousands at my previous job. You have to go out of your way to support and purchase DisplayPort. It’s not on TVs. It’s rarely on laptops. It’s not on conference room equipment. Anywhere I do find DisplayPort hdmi is right next to it.
Meanwhile business class monitors have DP, rarely HDMI. All the business desktops and thin clients we have purchased for many years are DP only. Digital signage, all DP. Out of my last three laptops, only one had HDMI, but they all had DP over USB C.
The only things I see regularly using HDMI are consumer television gear. Almost everything else has been DP first and HDMI second (if at all).
Though enterprise server hardware is still using VGA lol.

I'm not saying it's good, but all I see on modern laptops is USB-C ports.
Which, incidentally, can carry displayport.
And very few carry HDMI, because for some strange odd reason hdmi alt-mode is weirdly rare still....
It's almost like companies don't want to pay extra money on every device for a feature the vast majority of consumers would never use... good thing DisplayPort is free, or we'd get neither.
Yeah, my laptop has a USB-C port with DisplayPort support. And it supports up to 4K @ 60fps where the HDMI port only supports up to 4K @ 24 fps. HDMI can suck dick.
DisplayPort Won On PCS tho especially Linux users with open source amdpro,Intel drivers that dont have good HDMI Support. and DisplayPort is a better technology.
Every device that has a DisplayPort also has hdmi. Not every device that has hdmi also has a DisplayPort.

Yes HDMI is more popular but it has some adoption on Gaming Pcs
Any displayport source can (per DP standard) deliver HDMI, you just need a dp->hdmi adapter or cable. An explanatory article from 2008 translated via google.
The other way around is harder to achieve but works, too (needs an active adapter to convert the signal).
