General Discussion for politics in the UK.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and either a link to reputable news source, or be a text post.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

We are friends with !ukpolitics@lemm.ee, a uk news community on a more general site.

The Times gearing up there with their anti-Labour "oh sob sob they're going to ruin Brexit" propaganda, prior to the next general election.

Sure, the EU will let the UK jump to the front of the queue.

Now where have I heard this before :)

Single market with no political union would be sweet

One wonders why something like this wasn't offered to Cameron or wasn't part of the referendum debate or any of the negotiations. Seems like the UK (and EU) has lost a decade over stubbornness and unwillingness to reform their ideas.

EU leaders will begin talks on deeper integration and streamlined decision-making, with a target date of 2030 to allow the bloc to enlarge eastwards to include Ukraine and the Western Balkans.

Oh good we just need to keep the Tories out until 2030 or longer!

still about half as good as being in the single market. Its ‘designed’ to appeal to Starmer but really what we need is to be at the grown ups table. Getting a hand job from Liz Truss or Farage is not the aim, its actually the improving wealth and prosperity of so many aspects of our lives. Those people are irrelevant and they represent nobody with any honesty, only cynicism and condescension.

Yep being in the single market with freedom of movement, without paying into the environmental disasters that are the Common agriculture and fishing policies

France thinking Britain having an association status is a good idea harks back to the 1960's Labour party in government.... history doesn't repeat etc.
