Have we forgotten that this government was doing procurement business through Whatsapp?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago (3 children)

The statement is nothing but a dead cat to deflect from the heat pump scam that is coming. The UK has no buying power, so cannot dictate standards anymore. They can control standards within their own market, but for international products like cars they have very little say. The EU will be the ones to decide this one. If the EU pulls the plugs on petrol engines in 2030, then no one will build petrol engine for the European market. Building for just the UK will become very expensive.

This is aside from the fact that the Tories have very little time left in office. The Express posted this. Being a Tory mouthpiece, the Express sees this as something to whip Labour with. It is just a clown show.

The guy who does the videos normally does building instruction videos. Politics is not his normal thing.

https://www.uswitch.com/energy/boilers/boiler-statistics/ has stats on boilers sold at 1.5m units per year. So the 19,200 figure he quotes is 57,600 as a minimum.

I take it from your evasion in the reply that you cannot fault the article I linked that debunks your previous opinion?

Your rant falls at the first hurdle, because Murdoch sold Sky News in 2018.

True it is now owned by fox news owner comcast. Comcast has some very close links to the GOP, which is also part of the national conservative group. It is still very right wing in bias. Being right wing bias was the pertinent point as the article stated.

Ironic that you complain about media bias when you’re constantly linking to LeftFootForward. Hardly an unbiased source.

There is not a media on earth that does not have a bias. What I said was that you should always remember where the bias is. You can hardly fault me for not posting more from right wing media when they fail with honesty and credibility. My personal bias is left of centre with a strong dislike for the current batch of Tories.

Not exactly a lot of context is there? First main point would be that this is ~~Murdoch~~ Comcast media who will jump through hoops to throw the blame away from Government. Always look at the bias of the reporter to understand how credible it will be.

When asked about inflation, Mr Haldane said: "It [the Bank of England] kept on printing money for a bit longer than it needed to.

Which leads to the linked article : https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-bank-of-england-unleashes-further-150bn-of-support-for-economy-12124096

You have latched onto one sentence and want to use this as the reason for inflation for the UK. It is pretty loose. I can see why your first comments were so vague.

There is no value attached to "a bit", neither is there any statistic thrown out as to how much this has affected inflation. The money printing as you like to call it was because of lock down. Which was at the behest of government. So you have taken a government policy issue and exaggerated the statement of "a bit" and decided this is the be all and end all of inflation from a statement made three years previously.

Here is someone who understands economics. . Let me highlight some comments:

Add this all together, and what King is really saying is that if you print money you get inflation[1]. Unsurprisingly, this simple notion which has long been beloved by right-wing politicians has now won support and amplification by those politicians and media friendly to their cause.

As I said always understand the bias of the media.

The writer adds:

I would not, of course, have written the paper if I thought he was. What I assemble is data that shows that although QE clearly did increase the money supply it did not in any way influence inflation upward. Indeed, there was no hint that inflation might take off until the autumn of 2021 when it was very apparent that it was other factors (Covid reopening, supply chain issues, war, sanctions, energy company profiteering, etc) that very obviously created the situation we now find ourselves in.

It then adds a lot of data to prove his point. So no, I am not stating your are wrong. A whole field of economists are saying that. They also point out the bias of your media link.

EDIT changed Murdoch to Comcast

Some some context. You are spouting gibberish.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

Meanwhile doing procurement deals through Whatsapp. They want openness for other people not themselves.

Typical gaslighting technic. Vague statements with nothing to back up what you actually mean or any relevance to the topic at hand. The only reason the UK has done quantitative easing is in response to the failed government policies. With this we would have seen pensions wiped out. This is the fault of government not the BOE.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

Why didn't he use up his former PM's allowance? It is meant for continuing costs that arise from being PM. As loose as it is, this should have been his first port of call.

The policy has not failed; the willingness to protect consumers has. Sunak has provided a windfall tax that is ineffective. It was implemented with that intent. He ignored labours calls to protect consumers. His wife has done well out of it.

Remember this.

Sure, the EU will let the UK jump to the front of the queue.

Now where have I heard this before :)

It is a government body ran by a Tory government. Ofcom, Ofwat, Ofgem and the Electoral Commission are all under the direction of government.

The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power – pure power.

George Orwell - 1984

Please don't get caught out by this. It is exactly what the Tories want.

Simply wow. If you ever needed a reason to join a union then this is it. These are the people that are donating to the Tory party. And this is what they expect.

For Mods, I have no affiliation to this channel.

My eyes will be watching Tory reactions to the goings on. There is a jittery atmosphere within the Tories atm. They know that the longer they put off an election, the more it will imped their chances of success at an individual level.

There are a lot of Labour bias opinions pushing the theory that Sunak doesn't care about the next election results, and that he is only pushing for his own families gain with an Indian trade deal. Add in that Modi pushed Sunak aside by cancelled a planned meeting with Sunak at the last minute. Sunak was also very much in the spotlight for taking no part in the India trade route initiative.

A Cabinet level politician told i anonymously that both parties would love to scrap the triple lock but “no one wants to be the first to do it” for fear of older voters deserting them

I find this one a strange one to push from Inews. It is from one cabinet minister so it has obvious Tory bias. This goes against what Raynor was pushing at the TUC, who said they will increase state aid in an attempt to redress the balance. There is a difference between not promising something and not being able to cost it properly yet. Labour have the difficulty with costing and the way the government hides so many figures.

For anyone who has not read the text link here.

Most important points for me are:

Increase the minimum and living wage and apply inflation rises to them as a minimum.

A Labour Government will replace Universal Credit with a social security system that allows low-income earners on benefits to keep more of their take-home pay, and which offers a safety net for all.

Raising Statutory sick pay.

Recognising good companies as a good source for government procurement. The Tories gave P&O a £300m after P&O sacked 300 UK workers. This should never have happened.

Strengthening of unions and a reversal of the laws the Tories have implemented to hinder any collective bargaining.

Removal of the gig economy. This is a blight. I have always actively avoided any company that employs in this way.

A return of workers rights from the first day of employment.

Outlawing fire and rehire.

Labour will bring about stronger family-friendly rights. This is a common sense policy for any country that wants to improve the future of the country. Kids are the next generation. Everybody with a soul recognises just how much they have been abused under the Tories. I would add that younger people especially should make it a priority to vote and join a bloody union. People in work today are a lot more than £10 a month worse off. This is the cost of a union that would stop that happening. Not being in a union is a false economy.

Labour will establish a single enforcement body to protect workers

Legislation that empowers and protects workers is therefore key to addressing inequalities in the workplace and society at large.

A tall order to commit to for the first 100 days in power. The devil will be in the detail.
