Happy to wait and happy if he never releases haunted chocolatier.

Stardew has already given more than I ever expected.

I also don’t like this narrative journalist are running that development on haunted chocolatier has stopped because stardew valley is still getting little content updates here and there.

After reading about the making of the first game in Blood, Sweat, and Pixels, I'm convinced that this dude NEEDS a publisher, or at least some kind of producer or project manager. He actually needs structure and deadlines, even if they're a bit soft, or else we'll never actually play the Haunted Chocolatier.

I'm convinced he doesn't need any of that, and if he decides to publish another game he can damn well take his time doing so.

He doesn't owe you shit - he doesn't need the money - he's doing this because he loves to make games.

Why the fuck would you impose bureaucracy onto free creative expression? Just for your own selfish enjoyment?

Shame on you

LOL okay dude.

Check out the book and read this whole story about his first game, then come back to this thread. The guy has some real - arguably self-imposed - psychological struggles in his life, and they cause hardship for both him and the people he loves (esp. his partner). He's now showing that he learned nothing from making Stardew and didn't emotionally grow from that experience, and this creates a further cycle of pain for him.

Since your concern is for his mental health and clearly not a selfish desire to get his next game right now, shouldn't you be advocating for him to get a therapist and not a publisher?

Sure seems like taking some time off with guidance from a doctor would help him the most personally, which again, is clearly your main concern.

I give zero shits about his next game, as we'll still be seeing articles exactly like this two years from now.

Read the book and come back when you're actually informed about the topic. I'm not saying anything new about this dude.

"I give zero shits about his next game"

"If he keeps this up I'll never get to play his next game!"

Dude shut up. You aren't fooling anyone. Concerned Ape can make his stuff however the hell he wants.

Misquoting someone is disingenuous. Not only are you removing the context, but you are changing the meaning.

The original comment was the guy saying he needs a publisher or someone to give him deadlines in order to get the game out in a timely fashion. That doesn't sound like "I don't give a shit about the game" to me. Even if it was just an observation, if the comment was intended to allude to his mental issues, it's still not a publisher that he needs.

I don't disagree. However using fake misattributed quotes is not the way to prove your point. I don't know the history of the publisher. I am only passingly familiar with the game, more because of its success as a small indie.

However, the person saying they need a publisher seems to have read a book on it and has more information..perhaps they do need a mental health professional from a personal point of view. Perhaps they need a publisher from a professional point of view. Work life balance helps our mental health either way, whether they seek professional help or not.

He literally said "I give zero shits about his next game"

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No, I'm pointing out how he keeps moving goalposts and is making an argument in bad faith, for reasons that are selfish. When that is pointed out, he tries to act like he doesn't give a shit.

He's being a jerk because he doesn't get to play a game he wants released, and his answer is to slap on some authority.

Who cares if the game is NEVER released? I don't. He's made his mark. He can take all the time he needs/wants.

Videogames bring on the most demanding and impatient fans you can find. If he can't handle pushback (which he can't, because now he's expecting apologies for the sin of disagreeing with him), then he isn't the voice of reason here.

Misrepresenting their comments doesn't help your case.

As an outside observer, you're both being jerks, and you both have a point.

I'm not misrepresented anything by pointing out the splitting of hairs.

Why do I care if you think I'm a jerk? You hopped in on a conversation and didn't add a single thing to it. You just showed up to point out what you think is a character flaw and not comment on the actual subject.

You aren't impressing anyone. Off with ya

Your responses truly highlight your ignorance of his "process". Seriously, read ONE chapter of that ONE book and then you'll be back here to apologize.

He wants to release his next game, but he has no clue how to get to the finish line on his own because he avoids structure when it starts to require personal accountability. Were it not for personal financial pressure (and the pressure he was putting on his partner), the first game would have never released. Now he doesn't have that pressure.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

For someone who doesn't give a shit, you certainly have gone through a lot of trouble to know everything you can about this man.

I'm not gonna apologize to someone who can't even keep their own narrative consistent.
