The FSF has published its evaluation of the "Llama 3.1 Community License Agreement." This is not a free software license and you should not use it, nor any software released under it.

I agree you shouldn't use it for your own projects, but Llama is a very valuable tool as a locally available LLM, it would be an overreaction to refuse to use Llama just because it's not a fully FOSS licence.

It does not physically stop you doing whatever you want with it, that's the main thing, just legally. Compared to tools like Google Gemini or ChatGPT which try to technically, not just legally, prevent you using it how you wish.

Modern software is complex, so we need to work together. Libre software defends us computing alone and in groups. Anti-libre licenses stop groups.
