Just watched this at home the other day (again) and was startled at how not great the stop-motion animation is in this. Like same technique as Ray Harrhausen used many years before. Maybe Cameron was doing an homage of sorts with that? 'Cause otherwise... oof.

It was of its time.
Well it was the 80s and standards for special effects were a lot lower. Nobody expected this to be a huge hit let alone spawn a franchise, and it had a pretty modest budget. Nevertheless I like this one a lot better better than the second, and I haven't even seen the others.
Same, same...
This is amazing, but how is this upload allowed on there?
People do various things to get the movies past youtube's copyright algorithms. They adjust color and framerate slightly, they might clip the video (i.e. remove a "margin"), they might remove telltale soundtrack, they might not mention the movie name in the description, etc., and I think if the movie is not monetized the standards are lower. I think if the algorithms don't detect it, it stays up until a copyright owner issues a takedown claim through youtube. I'm not an expert tho so I dunno.
That all makes sense!
The mystery of our age. Dunno... Might be gone soon if we add a bunch of views to it now
