The successful spinoffs mentioned aren't successful because they're a "trusted" IP with a big fan following. They successful because they're good. Sure having a fan base helps, but you have to make something good first.
An existing show can linger on for many years because it has a big fan following, but those folks aren't likely to follow something new if that new thing sucks.
Suits LA could have worked. We have medical dramas. We have police dramas. We could have more lawyer dramas.
A show sucking isn't emblematic of a bigger problem, it's the same problem that always existed.
