Some people never learn to not talk.
This person appears to of the "their opinion of themselves exceeds their ability" ilk.
The few examples of working dogs I have seen in NZ live in pretty shit conditions if you ask me. They are often kept in kennels the entire time they are not working with a tiny little run. That's now how dogs are meant to live and I feel so bad for them.
You could easily be describing most farm dogs. I think dogs having a small run and a kennel, where they spend most of there time, and getting to go for regular runs is just fine. If you compare this to pigs, then then a track dogs life starts to look pretty good. But we are not banning piggeries are we!
I've never met a farmer who didn't give their dogs a large area to roam, with the exception of when the girls are in heat. Yeah, only two of my mates let their farm dogs into the house, but it's not fair to make blanket statements.
I have seen farm dogs that didn't have large area to roam. As I said they spend any time not working in a kennel with a meter of run maybe two if they are lucky. I have also seen pets in similar conditions where the owners go to work and are gone all day while the dog is in the kennel.
Sad.

I don't. I would never treat my dog this way. Dogs are pack animals, they don't like being alone. Dogs need to pee and poop and won't do it in the kennel so they have to hold it for hours before they are let out. Dogs need mental stimulation and if left alone in a cage long enough will start gnawing on the wire and ruin their teeth.
I would never leave my dog alone more than a couple of hours and even then I leave him inside the house where he can roam around and play with his toys if he wants.
BTW I also think it's disgusting how pigs are treated especially the ones kept in farrowing crates. Pigs are intelligent creatures why not let them have a decent life before you kill them in their youth.
I sorta get why these conditions exist, it's not accurate to describe the dog as a rescue, and having said dog used in anti racing propaganda would definitely sour relationships with the industry they work with.
Definitely not the way to go about this though.
I love it how those two rule pretty much rule out every one who wants a Greyhound! Maybe with the exception of those who just love being able to put a cute little coat on a big gangly dog.
