Do we get to be part of Eurovision?
If Israel can get in, so can you.
Technically you've already been in it
(but more seriously, loads of non-EU countries are eligible for Eurovision)
The only restriction to be invited to join Eurovision, is to be within the shows broadcast influencr. This is course is moot in modern days, but it's why the whole of the Mediterranean coast countries are automatically part of it. And because Australia always broadcasted it, they were invited for several years to join. Canada just needs to start broadcasting the show.
Australia has participated nine times already. I'm sure Canada fits in.
The 51st State bullshit is so insulting. Over 10 million French speakers, they will loose their language laws. Native treaties torn up. The whole of Canada gets 2 Senators just like the least populist state of Wyoming with 590K people. All 10 Provincial legislatures amalgamated into one state house.
Only a senile fool and his cult think this is funny.
And if you've seen Wyoming's inhabitant's mindset, that alone is insulting to know 100 bigots get the same voice of hundreds of thousands.
Were going to need some sort of opt out to the internal market or this would hurt us more than a trade war with the US.
European countries dont need this because they naturally trade with eachother because of this thing some like to call "geography" but Canada does not, and thats not going to change from joining the EU.
Unlike the UK who just wanted to make their own trade deals Canada actually needs to. The EU values the sanctity of the single market more than the value the UK added to it, so they would pretty much have to create an entirely new member section just for us.
Still the freedom of movement, potential upgrades to our democracy, involvement in a rising world power, and potentially a mutual defence pact would be nice. Not too sure about the Euro, if it would hurt or help us.
As an added bonus, maybe when Quebec sees all these European countries that have English named products in their stores they will stop trying to rename Kraft Dinner. (Im Canadian and I live in Germany, half of things are in English and no one cares)
Actually, I'd be fascinated to watch what a serious drive to have Canada become an EU member would do for a lot of discussions in/about Quebec.
While I definitely see the potential (hell, necessity) for increased cooperation, I'm not confident full member status is on the table though. But we live in weird times.
They have literally said no. And considering one of the requirements is must be European seems there is no chance. But seems people don't know where Europe is.
Gross, no thanks
