Lemmy needs a women orientated instance!

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Lemmy simply needs more women. We need more people reporting and removing some of the misogynists here.

This is a really good idea actually.

I've been waiting for this for so long. It's no secret there's mostly men on lemmy and most things gravitate towards them. At this time, I would not recommend lemmy to any of my friends who are women. I don't think lemmy really appeals to women or has much to offer them. I hesitate to share perspectives as a woman because I know there's a big chance it isn't going to be taken well and won't be welcome.

NSFW women sex stuffI was downvoted before for saying I didn't enjoy penetration. I said it hurts without lube but even with it, it doesn't feel enjoyable and that vibrators are the only thing that feels good. I talked to another woman in that thread who enjoyed penetration and she got upvoted but I got downvoted and we weren't even arguing, just talking about sex as a woman (it hurts for me, it does not hurt for her, turns out we had more in common beyond that). I've never been judged by other women for this (friends or partners), men who are my partners usually have a problem with it and I've had men tell me they don't want me to have/use sex toys at all. If I talked about this on TwoX, others would either be in a similar boat or offer support. I miss being able to talk to other women online about this stuff.

I'm really sorry things like these happen to you. I wish things could be different. The only thing I'm able to do is my part.

Thanks, I appreciate it 🙂

I just heard about it today, I'm hoping it takes off.

Upvotes and downvotes should never exist in the internet.

I am not here to read my own opinion, I am here to read other's opinion, preferably different to mine, so I can enrich myself with their opinion and them with mine. When we introduce "upvotes" and "downvotes" it's easier to be in an echo chamber.

Anyway it's important that women have their own space!

If I remember correctly, downvotes were supposed to filter out spam and other unwanted content, now it is a disagree button.

ok ok I admit defeat. Downvotes were not meant to be a "dislike" button.

[–] Spaniard@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

A lot of good ideas end up having terrible use.

[–] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago

To be fair, their use was also debated

[–] P4ulin_Kbana@lemmy.eco.br 2 points 1 week ago

I've disabled showing of downvotes in Jerboa. Also disabled upvotes, but re-enabled it for a system that I ended up not using. Lemmy without vote counters feels amazing!

Blaze don't you have an ' intro to Lemmy' post already worked up? Some seem interested, but a bit lost. Like we all were when we started. what's an instance? Which one? etc

[–] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I just commented as the mod jumped in @leftylibra@lemmy.world

Otherwise I would have left someone else jump in, one of the objectives of this community is also to have other people contribute than just me 😅

[–] Cheradenine@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

I know, but I no longer have a Reddit account and I won't be making one.

Appreciate your work

I just call them servers or websites.

I usually go with "website". Server can sound a bit too technical.

[–] Dudewitbow@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

i usually refer to it like email but all the emails are set to public. it doesnt matter which domain you use, you basically see most of it. then explain it like, you dont create a yahoo email to email only yahoo email, or a gmail account to only gmail users. they all share a public api and send shit to eachother with it.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago

That comment saying they dont want to make a new account makes me lol when it only takes 2 minutes to make one

[–] alphapuggle@programming.dev 5 points 1 week ago

To be fair a lot of things are better alternatives than menopause
