A bug in the YouTube app is causing Shorts to immediately open and start playing, making for a slightly frustrating experience.

Here's a permanent way to fix it:

Or PipePipe if that one doesn't work out for you.

I feel like something that's titled "and how to fix it" should tell you how to fix it.

It doesn't.

The fix:

If you're used to the official Android app: ReVanced installation guide

Alternatives: NewPipe (FOSS), Grayjay ($10 or unlimited free trial, source-available with OSS plugins)

Not to mention alternative services like Peertube, Odyssey etc.

I was under the impression things like ReVanced were against the rules?

An actual fix wouldn't be a suggestion to use an entirely different application or dodgy homebrew patch anyway, that's just silly. That's like saying "Your car is making a weird noise? Here, drive one of these other cars instead".

It's like those pretentious people who gleefully come out of the woodwork to comment "tehehe you should switch to Linux" whenever someone asks a question about a Windows issue. No help whatsoever, they're just trolling because they feel superior and want others to know it.

Linux is a good OS, by the way. I use it, but I'm not a dick about it to others :P

I wish it had DeArrow inside the YouTube plugin like sponsorblock! I know there's someone who made a plugin or you can use a third party app but I was hoping something official. $10 is fair, recently paid for the keyboard after they added multi-language support (was planning to pay and finally did it after this addition)

Cool projects

LibreTube and materialious both have de-arrow and SponsorBlock implemented

I know but I kinda love grayjay and how I can locally sync my watch history, subs, etc between PC and android. I know there's a feature request for this though

The fix is there in the article. Though it's not a complete fix.

Yeah, if you watch shorts again it comes back. That's not really a fix.
