This page contains info about customization of color themes with ADB. No third party apps needed.

Nice info but complicated. Useful only if someone wants to know technical details or making an app.

Best to install Shizuku (play store) and ColorBlender (fdroid). Which provide a nice UI(but less precision) to change themes.

I tried using this app on the Android Studio emulator (using the AOSP images without Google services). It failed to get root access. The ADB methotd worked through.

The app uses shizuku. Which can be configured with wireless ADB. Root is not required. It works fine in that combo for me. Tested on two of my phones.

Yeah, but I am using the emulator, and the AOSP images are pre-rooted

Can I fix Graphene's godawful monochrome theme with this?

I have tested this on a emulator and it worked. It depends if Graphene is close to stock Android.
