If Email is ever sorted in any order other than purely Chronological, it is a deadly affront to humanity. Even the "sponsored" two emails at the top of Gmail is an insult.

The feature no one asked for in Outlook chapter 1. "Relevant" section out right at the top of the chronological list in case you didn't want to immediately see the keywords you searched for in descending order but instead preferred completely unrelated attachments from Janice in Finance.

nah, results sorted chronologically are the reason I can never find anything in my email in my first attempts. I always need to think of other terms to include in the search to eliminate all the hay that comes in the results.

This is why we developed the tagging system

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

As in adding labels to each email? I gave it up years ago for taking too much effort. It's also a half measure when it comes to achieving better search results.

You know you can automate it right? Like long before the advent of AI we've been able to automatically tag things based off their content/source/whatever you want really.

Unfortunately Gmail's search is also completely fucking broken.

How can an email be "sponsored"?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

That's a really good question, you'd have to ask Google about that one.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah. You can turn it off. For now...

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago

Not no, it will then hallucinate entire emails just to have something show

[–] [email protected] 25 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I would, but unfortunately I don't use Gmail

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago

I would estimate that as Most Fortunate.

I "turned off" gmail entirely instead. I don't want AI sorting my results, or reading my emails to tell me what to write in reply.

For me it has been this way on mobile and tablet for at least a year, and I didn’t find a way to turn it off. It gives the results in a completely random order, making older things impossible to find.

Multiple times, I had to sit down in front of a computer to find few months old emails.

Absolute garbage.

Thunderbird for mobile is great! And in contrast to the gmail app, search actually works, lol

Fair... Sorry, I always forget how prominent Apple devices are in the US.

I don't see how this could be worse than the current Gmail search. I have to use the sync tool to Outlook for my work email because outlook's search is so much better.

Came here to say this, Gmail search has been basically broken for me for years. The preview suggestions when typing in a search query have been more accurate for me than the actual search.

I have a couple of old emails from 2020 that always appear in search results no matter what I search for.
