I think you're on to something here. I lead stargazing and amateur astronomy classes, and one cool thing that happens with Venus is that you can see it in a crescent phase. You actually can see some suggestion of that in your picture if you zoom way in on her. The problem you run into is that Venus is just too damn bright, and it really mucks up getting a clean picture of her (and will show you if your telescope eyepieces are dirty real quick). I'd bet that if you tried this with a filter, shorter exposure, or lower ISO, you'd probably be able to get a clean crescent.
