To be fair, the last time the DNC got behind a progressive candidate for president, Nixon won like 48 states and it hasn't really recovered since. It's not hard to see why they are still in fear of that event. The issue seems to be the rotting shrubbery infesting politics from a lack of term limits.

Libs are desperate to believe that the actually-real conditions in the US are fine, if not great - and everyone flocking to the right and left of them is just because they're being propagandized by foreign adversaries and not due to any real systemic issue.
I guess I'd just float the possibility that maybe the reason populism is on the rise is because capitalist democracy is failing, and a growing majority of people have lost faith that democratic reform is possible at all. Democrats continually insisting that there is no actual crisis and we just need to calm down and return to a status-quo (or constantly telling us now is not the time for reform) is contributing to this voter apathy, even while they're screaming about the dangers of fascism (as absolutely real as they are).

No, I believe the people conducting genocide and throwing protestors in labor camps are fascists, and the white moderates in the 'opposition' party who feign outrage but can't be bothered to lift a finger to stop it are collaborators. I don't even think democrats need to adopt economic populist positions to win, really - they could start adopting the reactionary positions on the populist right, too, and maybe stand a chance (though it would be hard to out-reactionary Trump). The middle is just a hollowed out husk tho - if they stay there they'll never win again

What would you consider AOC? I would call her a progressive, but maybe the disconnect we're having is over definitions more than anything else.
What are democrats doing to stop Trump? Their official policy is to do nothing.

Like he could have just not done that, and Dems probably would have won. Continuing to shovel more bombs hoping some stern words would get the war criminals to change their minds was a stupid strategy. I had to read this three times to realize it didn’t say destroying the GOP. Because if MAGA has chewed anything up and shat it out, it’s the Republicans. They are playing their cards right now and there are no more left in their hand, ever. They’ll never be the family values party again, they'll never be the jeebus party again, they’ll never be the fiscally responsible party again - they’ll always be the party that got suckered by billionaire criminal Trump and tried to take the rest of us for the ride. Others will half-assedly try to imitate Trump once he goes to the great adult diaper in the sky, but they will alternately fail and eat each other alive trying to be worse than one another. The Democrats are right there, same as they’ve always been, will always be around, and if anything MAGA are keeping them on life support because “at least we’re not MAGA” is their number one selling point.

Historically when the Whig Party fell a part over slavery they were replaced by the Republican party. Many Whigs became Republican. Lincoln was Whig.
The current GOP's power basely relies on the Democratic Party being so incapable. A party with focused goals that aren't just derived or borrowed from the GOP will likely break this inertia, as is so needed.

DNC destroyed itself
Everywhere the English went they created first past the post electoral systems which are notoriously vulnerable to this situation. We shouldn't be surprised but we should be asking for something better before it's too late to make meaningful change.
