I don't understand what I'm meant to learn from this.

There are a lot of things people do that kill sharks or make the waters uninhabitable for sharks. When people hear that, they think "good, I don't want to get et by a shark when I go swimmin" because that's how they talk. This is supposed to draw attention to how sharks don't actually pose a threat to swimmers, and highlight their importance in the aquatic ecosystems.

I mean one swim doesn't prove anything though

Sure, but how about all the swims of all the people who never get attacked by sharks? This one is for attention.

Well, I was thinking more about the other ones.

The ones where the shark population doesn’t fall off.

Sharks gotta eat

I’m not saying the sharks aren’t safe, it’s just perhaps not quite as safe as some of the other ones.

It's not meant to prove anything, just to draw attention to the issue.

Sure, but the article didn't tell me anything about what's at stake or provide a call to action or anything.

I'm now aware that the jaws 50th anniversary is coming up, and some guy swam around the island where it was filmed without being eaten. But again, not sure what I'm supposed to do with that info.

More people die from housecats every year than sharks

And that's like 3-5 purr year

More people are killed by their spouse than cats and sharks combined so make marriages illegal?

Cat scratch fever! And I mean Bartonella henselae, not the Ted Nugent song or the 2011 film by Lisa Duva.

I’m glad he didn’t get eaten by sharks but it would have been really funny if he got eaten by sharks. It’s a conundrum.

One of the most dangerous animals in America is the cow. And that's not even counting the heart disease.
