Mr Rodgers is the best.

Thank you for sharing this, OP.

Mr. Rogers was an amazing human being unlike any other. What a beautiful soul. Let's never forget him - and let's remember that his kind words and the toil of his labor were meant for us all.

You're welcome 😊

Who? And who is he talking to?

[–] [email protected] 48 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Mr. Rogers. And he's talking to you.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Rogers and I guess he is talking to all the kids he reached with his programme, both young and now older.

I'm crying

But also right now I've been imploding and I am the bad guy, and I don't know how to forgive myself. Like 4 days after ending a relationship with the kindest person I've ever met because I want kids and she doesn't, I spiraled and slept with my roommate who also had a break up. I then broke down at our housewarming party and told my ex and she hates me now, but she's a huge part of my life still. I'm trying to patch things up with my roommate but I'm worried I'm leading her on, and then we found out a new friend of mine has been gossiping about the situation after I went to his in an absolute broken state.

This all comes down to my fault and I just can't keep going with the shame. I don't want to be me anymore.

Please Mr. Rogers give me strength.

This all comes down to my fault

No, it isn't... Partial responsability, yes. But. Seems to me you're handling it as best as you can, which may not be enough to some, but still that's on them. Also, you feel remorse, that's got to count. Anyway, above all, the gossip is way beyond you..

We need more Mr. Rogers and fewer Trumps in this world.

Do these empty platitudes do something for you all? They just don't seem to work for me.

Edit: Apparently empty platitudes do actually work for a lot of people. Fair enough.

I think it resonates with people so hard because from him, I don't think it was just an empty platitude. If you've never seen it, this would take about 7 minutes to watch and would demonstrate this, I think.

Presbyterians don't have canonized saints but if they did, Fred Rogers would probably be at the top of the list. He was a Presbyterian minister who made teaching, encouraging, and building up children his life's work. He did it, without being condescending, by coming to them through their television sets every week. Something no one else had ever done before.

I think when he told millions of kids, "I like you just the way you are", he meant it. Kids need to hear that. I sure did.

Empty if they came from someone who didn't spend every moment of his being encouraging children and adults alike to be their best selves. It's Mr Rogers. I read it in his voice. His words hit me right in the balls and made me keel over breathless.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Watch his testimony to the Senate Subcommittee that was planning to cut PBS funding, and tell me it doesn't touch you.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Oof, right in the balls.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's sad that you think he wasn't being honest.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

I think they just don’t know about Mr. Rodgers’ Neighborhood. AFAIK only aired in the US. I only know about it from online videos.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

I mean he's doing better than my parents.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

It seems empty because you doubt the sincerity, but Mr. Rogers was the real deal, he really meant it.
