Not related to the article, but i have seen a youtube video describing how BYD won the EV race. One point was VW completely fucked up their software part and BYD rocked theirs.
It's absolutely crazy how fast the car industry in China turned around. In Brazil, we always used to make a joke about how Chinese cars were coffins on wheels because almost all of them failed the crash tests for Latin NCAP. Come 2024, and the BYD Dolphin Plus gets a five-star rating with over 90% protection for both adult and child passengers. And I watched the video and the passenger compartment is a literal tank, it did not bend or get crushed even slightly on a frontal offset 40 MPH crash. And I think it's safe to assume that any other car of theirs tested would get similar results. As much as I don't like the Chinese government (especially cause they have a hand on most of the industry in China), some of the newer chinese stuff (be it cars, electronics, or products in general) are much higher quality than their western counterparts. Obviously, there's still the shitty throwaway stuff but it is no longer the norm.
