Poor guy. I hope he learned his lesson!

When has shame ever stopped these pieces of shit?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was going to say "forget shame, this is illegal!" And then remembered that hasn't stopped them either...

[–] [email protected] 6 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

It's not illegal for Congress.

Not sure if /s or not but The STOCK Act is explicitly to prevent insider trading for members of Congress...

[–] [email protected] 5 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I must have missed the part where members actually get charged, and convicted, for insider trading. If no one gets convicted under the law, is it really a law?

Wikipedia only lists one person, in 2019, in the last several decades that has been convicted of insider trading.

Honestly, I'm not sure why members aren't just required to have investments be completely managed by a third party where they have no input on any specifics. They simply have too much influence and knowledge on what is going to happen to be allowed to manage their own investments while in office.

Yeah, while it was implemented, it relies on a sort of self endorcement to work... and what seems to happen is more along the lines of 'don't ask don't tell'.

And agree - in an ideal world, all politicians' investments should be managed by an independent third party to avoid conflicts of interest along with prevention of insider trading.

Laws don't apply to the rich and the political class

"Shamed" implies he's capable of feeling shame, which I very much doubt.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 day ago

If they refuse to feel shame, make them feel fear.

That'll learn em'!

Colleagues express outrage

Pfft...

Express some outrage in a performative attempt to suggest these colleagues wouldn't have done the exact same fucking thing if in the position to do so...

Then, when news cycle shifts, continue on status quo as if it never happened with no consequences or actual "shame" on the part of any-fucking-one. 🤷‍♂️ 🖕 💩 💩

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago

Remind me when he faces any consequences.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Anyone could've done this. It was obvious that if this shitty bill passed, it was a good bet to ditch the stock as a preventative measure. Whereas if it didn't, it's not like those stocks would surge. This guy is still a scumbag, but this story is burying the lead, which is, Congress just fucked over millions of Americans to again bail out the billionaire class. This is and always has been a class war, and all but the 0.1% are the ones losing.

When elderly folks start losing their homes due to medical debt foreclosures, these people need to be made to own that result.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 22 hours ago

What does it mean to own this result? Getting voted out of congress, which is more than most are likely to get, ends with a cushy corporate job and at least hundreds of thousands more dollars than the people they are fucking over. Even in the best case scenario accountability is a fantasy.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

All of them do it on both sides. Pelosi been raking it in.
