I see some folks saying sarcastic stuff about this, which is valid certainly.

For me a grounding statement like this can help remind me that I don't need to be guilty about something stupid I did decades ago. Or help me refocus on the present when I am in an anxiety spiral.

Yep it works for me too. I get that it's not for everyone though

Great, so now I feel guilty about my anxiety.

Of course anxiety can change the future. That's why it exists. It can be a selective advantage. Prey animals are super anxious for a reason.

Fully agree.

And guilt - if in appropriate measure - can protect from repeating mistakes. Excessive or misplacedd guilt is another matter, of course.

No, it's not. Anxiety changes the future all the time. It's a powerful weapon in any asshole politician's arsenal of propaganda.

As is guilt.

So crippling anxiety isn't a factor destroying my future after all? Huh!

It certainly changed my future to one that involved much more laying in the fetal position on the floor than I’d have otherwise experienced.

And yet, my brain still does it 😑

Good to know I can safely let my anxiety grow. Thanks OP!
