How to start a fire in the wilderness with only a power generator, a microwave and a coin:

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I feel like there might be a simpler way but what the hell, lock and load!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

There are simpler ways. But they're boring.

Thinking quickly Dave constructs a homemade megaphone using only some string a squirrel and a megaphone

We need a TQDC community.

This works only if you are trying to do it secretly. Go gender reveal party or go home!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

You can do a gender reveal party in the wilderness... and end up blowing up everyone in the worst way possible, all with a coin.

In the age of receiving CDs in the mail (like AOL), we would microwave them for 10 seconds to make coasters. The arcing would make neat designs in the CD

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

fwiw i'm pretty sure you can still get CDs for pretty damn cheap, so this is totally still doable and hell might even be a little side business

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

There’s lots of discarded ones if you know where to look

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

And fun to watch, too

In the age after total disregard for personal data, and the advent of personal data regulations, we'd burn tons of backup CDs like that.

A coin cannot cause this much damage to a microwave in 1 minute.

I think compacting any adult person into a size small enough to fit into a microwave would do that much damage in one minute

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Unless Amillo1951's ex wife was already small enough to fit in the microwave

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Keep going. I don't think you completely ruined the joke yet.

at least i think they've quit microwaving their iphones

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Indeed, but I seriously doubt that damage was caused by trying to microwave a penny.

If you stick the mini one in an electrical socket, it'll make it grow again

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago
[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

but only if you push it in with your bare finger

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Idk if anything would actually happen. There's nowhere for it to arc, so it would just bounce around

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

Nothing would happen because of the coin, no. But microwaving an empty microwave can seriously damage it because there’s nothing to absorb the microwaves. You can burn out the magnetron.

A fire is possible but unlikely.

God damn, Nigella Lawson

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Does the metal sublimate or does the mini coin have 50 times the density? Is this how black holes are made? /s

An empty bag of chips for 6 seconds was always good fun.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

We used to do this at school and make Keychains.

None of these are quite as bad as the 4chan post telling people to make mustard gas.
