For context, I finally figured out (accepted?) that I'm bi at the ripe old age of 33. I've never really expressed any interest in my outward appearance but recently have found myself wanting to do so.

Ok, so now for the question: I came across a blue hair TikTok filter yesterday (pictured) and now I'm hours away from an appointment to bleach, colour and style my hair. Am I making a mistake? Honest feedback is appreciated!

Why would it be a mistake? If you want to have blue hair, go for it. Life is short and dyed hair is for everyone.

I'd like to see the results if you feel like posting it!

Thanks Velociraptor, I appreciate your encouragement. ❤️ I'll post a follow up photo, sure 😊

Those who mind don’t matter; those who matter don’t mind…

Be you.

The photo looks amazing! If you're ready for the maintenance and the labour market lets you do it, then do it!

Aw thanks alex 😊 I only hope the real thing looks as good! I already take decent enough care of my hair, shampoo and condition it a few times a week, de-tangle it with a wide toothed comb, let it air dry and then brush it with a boar bristle brush once it's dried. I don't know if that'll be sufficient once it's coloured though? ❤️

There's color safe shampoos and conditioners that will help your color last longer. You might even be able to find blue specific ones.

Thanks for the tip cabbagee! ❤️

That sounds like pretty great care! I'd recommend using a conditioner that's made for coloured hair, otherwise I think you're good to go! (And don't shampoo it too often, twice a week should be enough for most people - bleach dries up the hair and so does shampoo, and dry hair means dandruff & greasy hair!)

Go for it! It's a bit cliche to talk about how "liberating" it can feel to change up your hair, but only because that feeling can be so real. Especially if it's something you haven't done before. Make sure you talk to the stylist about how to take care of it (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) to make sure the color doesn't fade. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip on asking about post-care, distractedcactus! I'd have never thought of that on my own ❤️

If I may give an additional suggestion? Maybe let the beard get trimmed too and get some tips on how to maintain that while you‘re at the stylist.

I'm open to all feedback, LostCause, thanks for your input. ❤️ I have a bit of a love hate relationship with my beard and face if I'm honest. I hate the way I look without it as I'm quite baby-faced but it grows in patchy because of a childhood injury leaving scar tissue under my chin and on my neck. It does look especially unkempt and unruly in the photo though I will admit. I've since at least trimmed my moustache so it's not curling over my lip 😅

I wish I had the confidence to dye my hair blue! I've always wanted to try blue hair. Whenever I walk past someone on the street I always have to stop myself from visually 'miring it, because the person with the blueness doesn't know that I'm gawking out of admiration

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago

Yup, you are pulling it off!

Nah do what you wanna do man! Try out blue! Live a little. We all die in the end so you might as well have fun and explore.

My only piece of advice would, if possible, be dyeing your beard blue as well for that sweet coordination bonus.

But yeah, the dark blue looks good! As someone who also has dark hair and experimented with dyes in the past, I hope your journey goes better than mine ever did.

Thanks, DocSophie! ❤️ I was thinking of doing my beard too but I was worried it might be a bit too extreme for my first time exploring this side of myself 😅

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It will look great on you :)

I blue my hair all the time. A fresh haircut and dye job just makes you feel good. Enjoy!
