Cycling communities were one of my favourite parts of reddit, and I've been unable to find any equivalents on here so I decided to start this community. Feel free to post and comment about anything related to cycling! I'd love for this place to continue in the spirit of /r/xbiking, not necessarily content-wise but definitely attitude-wise. We're all cyclists, and at the end of the day the only criteria for being a part of this community is riding a bicycle (and enjoying it!)

Please comment any suggestions you have for this space, or simply say hi and let us know what you like to do on your bike!

Hi all,

active commuter here. Most days, I love biking but other days there are angry ppl who ruin my mood - peasants and other bikers I outpace. They sometimes are startled or feel pressured when I ring a bell but also when I ride behind them slowly for a while.

Part of the problem is that bike lanes are narrow. Racing bikes and electric bikes are faster than most bikes. None cares or knows about rules dealing with bike traffic. So, partly it is structural.

I know, I cannot make friends with everyone (not my goal) but have you also thought about or even experimented with

  • a bell which sounds friendly and does bot startle ppl
  • a way to outpace ppl without them feeling pushed (ring the bell earlier/later)
  • any other aspects of making encounters on bike pleasant

Happy to hear your thoughts Best

Excuse me, I spend most of my time on three wheels moving my kids around. This egregious discrimination from the two wheeled community will not stand :D

I'm going to assume that normal bike-like electric assisted bikes like this are alright too:

A good reason for that is because I find there is a staggering lack of basic bike knowledge in /r/ebikes (frames, componentry, mechanics) and people aren't getting any of it since they're segregated into their own echo chamber.

What caliber shells does your bike fire?

Cannon fodder from plastic packaging and aluminum cans judging by what's inside. ☠️

Nice! What was xbiking about? I thought I had been subbed to all the cycling subreddits but had missed that one. My jam these days is bikepacking, I love the combo of biking far and camping. Glad you made this community!

xbiking has always been a sort of loosely defined thing, but if I had to define it in a sentence I'd say it's cycling that is done primarily for adventure, with a certain disregard for the conventional cycling ethos which can kinda fall into snobbery at times.

Here's an archive.org link of a reddit thread where the creator of /r/xbiking explains it. It was by far one of my favourite subreddits, and I hope we get some similar activity here!
