I was having a discussion with some of my friends about various random things going on in the gaming industry and one of the things we talked about is how there has yet to be a mainstream/AAA game with a gay man at the center. We were talking about the obvious reasons that hasn't happened yet, and why it's more likely to see a queer woman (e.g. Ellie) in this space instead of a man, but it seems like very few people seem resistant to it -- it just hasn't happened yet. This is obviously more in the narrative/story-based gaming space as of course there are some genres that don't have much in the way of plot or characterization.
So I guess my question is, all other things controlled for -- AKA it's the kind of game you typically enjoy, is well made, etc. -- would you be turned off from playing a video game if the protagonist was a gay man? Why or why not?
