Racism is a nebulous ideology full of contradictions. It completely crumbles under close examination. You highlighting the internal inconsistencies of racism and going "see! It doesn't matter that the visibly white people aren't white!" Isn't proving the point you think it is. There is no white tribe. It's a myth. You're fighting a ghost. The European continent is full of numerous ethnic and cultural groups. Groups that were at each other's throats for most of their history. Some still are to this day. Again, the Irish are a perfect example of this.

If I said all Africans are of the same tribe and waaaay more similar than they are different, you'd lose your shit. It's the same deal. Whiteness doesn't exist, white supremacy does. It's complicated and makes no sense. It's not supposed to make sense, it's a tool of oppression just like any other form of racism.

Between your comments on race and your comments on religion, it's obvious that you've constructed a comfy narrative for yourself where all of the views you hold are the right ones and they absolve you of all wrongdoing perpetuated by members of your race and religion, choosing instead to lay the blame solely on others. You have no incentive to think otherwise, you're perfect, your beliefs are perfect, and the people like you who do bad things aren't really what they say they are. Enjoy your delusion

No, Zionists are mostly Jews and Christians. Same as the modern wave of American fascisn is explicitly Christian. They say as much and use their respective religious texts to opress others. Many evangelical churches spew religiously motivated hate very Sunday, and perpetuate the state's propaganda to the Christian masses. There are atheist Zionists and fascists, sure, but to say that those movements are atheist movements is so hilariously wrong I don't even know how you've managed to convince yourself of it

Being European doesn't necessarily mean you're white. The Irish are European (and the whitest of the bunch if skin color was the only factor) and for the longest time they weren't considered white, and were subject to the same oppression and genocide from the "real whites". Many Jewish people, and many Zionist for that matter, may have European ancestry, but they aren't really considered white. Some might be white passing, but the Jewish diaspora is multi ethnic and largely unified by their religion/family history. Even the ones from a "white" background aren't considered white because they're Jewish first in the minds of those who seek to enact racist violence against them

I understand that white supremacy and the history behind it is its own unique dynamic, but so are other forms of racism. There have been numerous ethnic cleansings in Africa that didn't involve white people, the Armenian genocide was perpetrated by non whites, balkanization, the Indian subjugation of kashmiris, the frankly bewildering levels of racism between various Asian ethnic groups, we can keep going but I feel like that is sufficient.

Your characterization of the genocide in Palestine is not only wrong, but also bordering on racist itself in the wildly inaccurate generalizations you make of the Jewish/Hebrew diaspora. We could go into the history of the Hebrew people, because their history as victims of racist, religious, and ethnic violence disproves your entire point. They've been subject to so many genocides and ethnic cleansings throughout their history that our modern conceptions of racist violence are largely informed by their history. White people weren't the only ones subjugating Jews. Judaism predates the existence of whiteness as a concept by millennia, so how exactly am I wrong?

You know racism is ubiquitous globally right? Americans and "westerners" don't have a monopoly on prejudice

Pedos don't get a pass, neurodivergent or otherwise. I'm neurodivergent and this shit is gross and predatory. The only thing autism has to do with this is him thinking it's a good idea to display his problematic proclivities on a t-shirt. At least girls now know to keep their distance, assuming this isn't fake

Eh, don't hang with sketchy people, keep off moncrief,.myrtle, Emerson, and 103rd and you're fine. Typical street smarts rules apply

A lot of first wave and early norwegian black metal bands were essentially proto-NSBM. Nazis have been a part of black metal for as long as it's been around. For a long while black metal had a reputation for being full of fascists

It's the cheapest, largest city in Florida, situated on i95 and i10, with ports, railways, and an "international" airport. Relatively close to Tallahassee and Orlando, and has a population just shy of 1 million, with a solid amount of those being working age, even more if you consider the metropolitan area (1.7 mil). On paper it's a solid pick to establish a presence in one of the most populous states in America. There's just one problem though, it's Jacksonville lol

Fr though, Jacksonvilles alright. It gets a bad rap but there's some really nice places around town, with more popping up every day and lots of nature if that's your thing. I've been working in jax for 10 years and living here for 8. It's more of a home to me than my hometown

Always weird when Jacksonville pops up on lemmy

The apples you buy in a grocery store are, on average, about 6 months old. This is because we basically figured out immortality for apples

Catholics and Protestants are both Christians, Catholicism is pretty unified in doctrine, and Protestants are a large group of very diverse denominations of Christianity. When I was forced to go to church, my pastor would often joke about Baptists forming new denominations over differing opinions on drape colors. Outside of those two groups, there are tons of other flavors of Christianity. Off the top of my head you've got Mormons, Greek Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox, jehovas witnesses, and Oriental Orthodox

The title pretty much says it! I'd like to explore that idea a little and would love to hear y'all's recommendations. This thought was originally inspired by lord of the rings, but I'm also currently on a little nostalgia trip by reading The Sea of Trolls and the soft magic system in that is pretty fun

Hey all, my city is doing a pride parade soon and I'm planning on handing out some material in the hope of starting a reading group. I'm looking for any recommendations y'all might have. I want to cover as much of the spectrum as I can with ~5-6 different pieces. I'm thinking one or two for a general "what is anarchism?", something on queer theory, black anarchism, ableism, and a 5th thing that I haven't determined yet. Any and all recommendations are welcome, whether or not they fit within the categories I outlined. Thanks!

Some of the pieces I'm considering at the moment:

Queer Social Anarchism - Elisha Moon Williams

Queers With Guns - Elisha Moon Williams

What is Black Anarchism - Andrewism

Life Without Law - Strangers in a Tangled Wilderness

I couldn't find a "grammar help" community so I thought this might be a good place to pose this question. Sorry for asking something that boils down to "please help me with my homework" but I'm at a loss. I'm supposed to be using MLA format.

Here's the text I'm quoting:

"While recognizing the critical potential of the dystopic imagination, this volume examines it as a form of urban representation; the modern city, after all, appears to be an instantiation of a dystopic form of society."

Here's my sentence:

Prakash notes the utility of dystopian media, stating "this volume examines it as a form of urban representation; the modern city, after all, appears to be an instantiation of a dystopic form of society." (3)

Is this right? Should I have the period at the end of the parentheses? I tried looking through my textbook and a few online articles but I couldn't find an example with a parenthetical citation and a quote that includes a period. Thanks for the help!

I have to write a paper about a place/time that I have an emotional attachment to or a place that has shaped my sense of self. I haven't really felt much of an attachment to anything for most of my life. Even if I did, I wouldn't even know how to begin describing the nature or cause of that attachment. I chose to write about the woods by my childhood home because I spent a lot of time there as a kid but I couldn't tell you how I felt about it in the moment or even how I feel about it now. I literally don't have the words

The propaganda worked. I bought a Thinkpad, the thigh highs are on the way, penguin stickers are already here. Now it's time to actually put Linux on my machine.

I'm a bit lost on which version of mint to put on the T480. It's an i7 8650u, 16gb RAM, 256gb SSD (will eventually be upgrading the RAM, SSD, and display). My question is, is the t480 "old" by Linux standards? From what I've gathered cinnamon is the standard version. Edge is for new (?) hardware that may not be fully compatible with cinnamon. MATE is for old/lower power hardware that can't handle the demand of cinnamon and xfce is for even older/slower hardware.

I've been running in circles all morning trying to find experiences of people with a T480 who are running mint and which version they're using. Old is apparently 3+ years according to various articles trying to convince me to upgrade and I haven't found much on what is considered old hardware for Linux. As someone who hasn't bought a computer in nearly a decade, a quad core processor with 16 gigs of ram is ridiculously powerful. My last computer was a $90 shitbox that I got on clearance from Walmart in 2016 to do online lessons in EMT school. So my perspective/experience is utterly useless.

Can a T480 run Mint Cinnamon 21.3, or am I better off using MATE/xfce? It's going to live a pretty easy life. I'll mostly be using it to browse, stream music, do (online) homework, write papers, and put books on my e-reader.

Had this epiphany last night when we went to an asian fusion place. The similarities are uncanny

I've got a bottle of dolin rouge that's been open for about a week so I'll be playing around with that. I think I'll start the night off with a vieux carre
