my Tama collection

80s baby. I had to make do with the knockoffs (the green cat one was a nano pet clone that worked perfectly and the octopets one was really fun except it was always freezing), because the official ones were sold out forever. I've had the two TamaGos on pause since last year haha. Tamagotchi Angel has been rereleased, but it seems kinda boring.

Mate, come join us at the @[email protected] group on Mastodon. There are a lot of fellow autists who will be there to lend an ear if you need to vent or need some practical advice. I recommend the autistics.life instance. I have the same issue irl, people will expect me to be there when they need me, but now that I need someone on my side, they'll happily throw me under the bus. You're not alone, even if it's just a few randos online.

Here in the UK I have never had to file taxes. It's all done as PAYE. Whatever software your employer uses will work out how much you owe via your tax code each pay packet and it's auto deducted. It's only self employed people (maybe other types of earner, I wouldn't know, I'm just a waged employee) who have to submit their tax forms. It's weird other countries aren't doing it this way.

Thanks, man. There was another issue I was having whole curtain communities would get an API error. One of them was [email protected], which I could only access via web until a few days ago, but that seems to be working now. Just a heads up. I'll let you know if I come across other comms giving that error.

I don't know if I'm missing it, but I can't see an option to report accounts. I just got another Nicole spam, this time with a bunch of bitcoin links, but I could only find a block option via Connect, and had to logon via web to report the account. I looked on the three-dot menus both on the message and the profile, but I couldn't see a report.

Those policital parties include the Monster Raving Loony party and the Pastafarians. We have Count Binface or is it Lord Buckethead running for seats. Minority parties rarely get more than a handful of votes, they don't get any seats.

We have FPTP here too, traditionally it's a race between Labour vs Conservative. A few areas tend to vote Lib Dem, and one consitutiency has been Green for a very long time. But generally it's Labour vs Tories. Now with the UK MAGA (the grifter Nigel Farridge, yes I spelt his name like that on purpose) is gaining popularity on the back of the rise of the hard right. The Tories went full hard right in 2019 when Johnson purged the party of any moderates, so only the loons who worshipped at the altar of brexit were allowed to stay. They continued this trajectory which means they're almost defunct, since anyone who's hard/far right will move to Reform (bunch of racist thugs) and the more moderate Tory voters will switch to Lib Dem or just sit it out. Although Labour seems to still be stuck in 2016 and pandering to the Brexiteers, even though polls show a majority for rejoin or at least closer relations with the EU (eg single market/customs union). So it seems if things continue, it'll be Labour vs Reform. They did well in the popular vote, as much as I hate FPTP, I'm glad it kept them from getting more than 4 seats. Interestingly enough, the media really really pushes Reform. They get tons of airtime, so much promotion. The libdems in comparison get barely any, despite having more seats. The Greens have 4 seats and barely get a look in in the media. The media (inc the BBC, Laura Kuensberg especially) is definitely favouring the hard right.

The current leader of the opposition, Kemi Badenoch, is a joke. Just your daily reminder that this woman thinks asylum seekers shouldn't be allowed here because they didn't earn their right to live here.

She only has British citizenship at all because her parents came here from Nigeria just before her mum was due to give birth, booked a private hospital for the birth, then bogged off straight back to Nigeria. That's how she got her British passport. That's how she "earned" her right to be here. Hypocrite POS.

The TLDR channel on YouTube explains a lot of British politics in a quick way for anyone who wants to know more.

Drops is free if you get the kids version. No ads and you can reset your allowance for free just by pressing the timer. It has less vocab though. Also be careful because their translations aren't always accurate (it gave the word for a stuffed animal, as in taxidermy, for cuddly toy in European Portuguese. I reported it several years ago and it's still not fixed) and they translate "how much" differently in different languages (eg in Arabic it translates to how much quantity, but in Portuguese and French, how much price). So I had a lot of fun thinking I was asking how much I need to pay for a bag of potatoes and the man kept telling me 500g.

I haven't used duolingo since they brought in that stupid crown system years ago. I got my 600 day streak and then stopped using it. I heard it's even worse now. It was a good starting point, but you'll quickly have to supplement. Pre-crowns, duolingo was pretty good. Memrise was much better, but they've overhauled that now too. Also I dislike that duolingo has time for fictional languages, but refuses to do real languages like European PT, British English, etc.

That's where the English word comes from, but I was taught piss-en-lit for French: https://wordhistories.net/2016/07/21/dandelion-pissenlit/

Piss-en-lit in French.

Pick the loneliest looking one. Then ask, mitä kuuluu?

There used to be a red and blue gradient background here. Now it's gone. I reset the theme, but it still shows white text on white background. Not that big of a deal as there's nothing there I need to read, but still mildly annoying. Also it means the switch user option isn't visible now.

Also is this how the surface colour setting is meant to work? I wanted the background colour in light mode to be an off-white so it's easier on the eyes, but there doesn't seem to be a way?

Thanks!

Anxiety vs Overwhelm (neurodivergentinsights.com)

Warning: ranting.

Like many, I was fobbed of with an anxiety disorder NOS diagnosis. I assumed that what I felt was anxiety. Last autumn I got to the top of the waiting list for anxiety therapy.

And it was useless. It got to the point where it felt like the therapist was trying to push low self esteem onto me so she could cure me of it, and thereby cure my anxiety.

I tried to explain to her that my anxiety wasn't based on irrational thoughts, but experience. If I have to go somewhere I'm not familiar with, I will get overloaded with all the new input. I will struggle to process it because I need to be alone to process. The same applies to my feelings. I can't deal with them when I need to, because I can't identify them. So all this makes me scared because I know it will exhaust me or make me shut down. I just see this void when I don't have any reference images. The more I can fill in that picture, the less anxious I feel. Because I can process this in advance (eg using streetview to memorise a route and save landmarks so I can navigate).

No, she says. It's because you have low self esteem. Now write down some bad statements about yourself and say them out loud.

In my quest to educate her, I came across this article and it makes so much sense why CBT wasn't working. The anxiety diagnosis doesn't fit.

Even after asking her to learn about autistic anxiety, she didn't bother. So next session I gave her a printout of that article. Something told me she wouldn't bother to learn anything from it, so I discharged myself.

Is what you're feeling anxiety or overwhelm? Does the anxiety come because you know from your own experience that something will cause you to struggle? Is the feeling more akin to dread?

Someone on Mastodon shared this link with me, and I thought you might find it as interesting as I do.

I really hate the misconception of the spectrum. It enables nasty people like Ellen degeneres to justify being a bully (in case you missed it, she tried to get diagnosed autistic. When that didn't work, she said, well it's a spectrum so we're all a little autistic, so I'm not a bully). And enables others to dismiss our struggles, cos hey, we're all on the spectrum!

Back to the article, I feel like I'm a mix of the three examples. I can see some that match from each example. How about you? When I stop feeling so lazy, I might do my own custom one.

It's bike spokes, I swear.

It seems like it might be official, but it's hard to say. The video uploads are the same 360p, so maybe it's just another fan channel.

It does have most of the episodes, as well as many songs!

Not his first attempt, but I want to do whatever I can to encourage him to stay on the wagon this time. I don't have any experience of this, so I'd appreciate any tips from those who have been there already.

Edit 02/10: he's still clean!
