BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union on Wednesday urged citizens across the continent to stockpile food, water and other essentials to last at least 72 hours as war, cyberattacks, climate change and disease increase the chances of a crisis.

The call to action for the EU’s 450 million citizens comes as the 27-nation bloc rethinks its security, especially after the Trump administration warned that Europe must take more responsibility for it.

The Lithuanian Intelligence Service (VSD) believes that Russia is not yet in a position to wage a large-scale conventional war against NATO in the medium term. However, limited military action against one or more NATO countries is possible.

Putin is allegedly planning to test how seriously NATO countries actually take the obligation to provide assistance under Article 5 of the NATO Treaty in case of emergency.

The death toll from the powerful earthquake in Myanmar has surpassed 1,000, as rescuers use their bare hands to dig through rubble for survivors.

The country’s military regime said 1,002 people had been found dead after the shallow 7.7 magnitude quake hit the centre of the country on Friday afternoon, followed by several strong aftershocks.

“The number of suicides among elementary, junior high and high school students has reached 529, the highest since the statistics began,” said Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi at a news conference Friday. “This is an extremely alarming situation, and we take it very seriously.”

A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday afternoon, according to the United States Geological Survey said.

The quake struck 16 kilometers (10 miles) north northwest of the town of Sagaing, Myanmar around 12:50 p.m. local time, USGS said.

Three European nations have asked the Trump administration for their unspent USAID contributions to be refunded.

Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands had been partnering with USAID on a project called Water and Energy for Food, or WE4F.

The Yemeni Houthi group reported on Saturday that it had targeted Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport with a hypersonic missile for the third time in 48 hours.

In a statement, the Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said: "In support of the oppressed Palestinian people and their brave resistance, our missile forces successfully targeted Ben Gurion Airport in occupied Jaffa with a hypersonic Palestine 2 missile."

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli forces advanced deeper into the Gaza Strip on Friday and blew up the only specialized cancer hospital in the war-torn territory, as Israeli leaders vowed to capture more land until Hamas releases its remaining hostages.

The hospital was located in the Netzarim Corridor, which splits Gaza in two and was controlled by Israeli troops for most of the 17-month-long war. Israel moved to retake the corridor this week shortly after breaking the ceasefire with Hamas. The truce delivered relative calm to Gaza since late January and facilitated the release of more than two dozen hostages.

Tens of thousands of Israelis have taken to the streets to call for a new ceasefire in Gaza and to protest against what they say is an attack on the country’s democracy by the rightwing governing coalition of Benjamin Netanyahu.

Key highways have been blocked and police have made at least 12 arrests amid heated scenes in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. More protests were expected in the coming days as the campaign “gathers momentum and energy”, campaigners said.
