I just recently bought a dryer. When I first got my printer, I was printing pretty constantly and didn't really have an issue with wet filament. But these days I've slowed down my printing frequency a lot, and I've definitely noticed that the print quality gets worse the longer I've had the roll unsealed.

Yes, that's right.

What I was mostly referring to was

posts bumped threads to the top

The controversial threads get more posts, so usually they get bumped to the top over and over until the hit the post cap. Being on top also attracts more posts, but seemingly the easiest way to get a newly created thread to succeed and attract posts is by posting something controversial first.

For example if I wanted to talk about Morrowind, and I think that overall most users there like Morrowind, I'd be more likely to have a successful thread/discussion by making a first post that was something like "I can't believe I fell for the meme that this was actually a good game". I'll get more intial responses of people disagreeing with me, and that will help the thread get started. After that the discussion can move on to other things about the game.

There used to be a dozen sites like 4chan. I don't know if any of them are still around, but I'm willing to bet that if 4chan doesn't come back there will be a new website that takes its place.

4chan is a pretty unique experience. Most of the internet is forming into echo chambers, where having a different opinion than the "correct" opinion for that community will get you downvoted or banned. My understanding with 4chan is that post popularity is determined by replies, and frequently controversial opinions/etc get the most replies. So posting stuff that most people will agree will result in a less popular thread than posting something controversial, offensive, or wrong.

I think this leads to a lot of the negative things you've heard about 4chan, but encouraging disagreements between its members keeps it from becoming a full echo chamber like a lot of social media. They still have some dominant community opinions, but those opinions can't really smother all the other opinions like on most sites.

To be clear, 4chan is a cesspool. But for all it's flaws it does offer something unique that's largely missing on other websites.

Japan in general has weird copyright/patent laws. For example the whole palworld patent lawsuits.

Good news is it probably won't affect people outside of Japan, except that it will stunt games/etc made in Japan.

Communities organizing themselves into squads to handle criminals and undesirables is also how we ended up with the KKK. Also the kinds of people who volunteer for unpaid security work tend to be pretty conservative in my experience.

The most common cause of deaths from lightning is from ground current, where lightning travels through the ground, goes up one leg, and back down the other leg back into the ground. My understanding on it is that different parts of the ground have different conductivity, and if your feet are on patches of ground with different charge levels the lightning can go through your legs as the most conductive path between the two points. For similar reasons, I was once told that the safest way to move across the ground near a downed power pole (if you absolutely had to for some reason) was either to shuffle your feet while keeping them as close together as possible, or to hop on one foot.

If you’re caught outside during a thunderstorm, the best plan of action is to move as fast as you can to a safer place

institutions such as the American Hiking Society and the city of Bellmead in Texas continue to include it in their lightning safety guidelines.

A lot of times when hiking or backpacking, you may be hours from a safer place. In those cases, it probably is better to crouch than to try to run down a mountain during a thunderstorm.

The actual crouching to lower your height may not help much, but keeping your feet close together to minimize surface contact probably does help reduce your chances of dying to a nearby strike.

SteamOS isn't quite ready for other devices yet, but you can install something like Bazzite or Zorin as a great alternative to windows. Bazzite is focused on providing an experience very close to SteamOS, and Zorin is extremely easy to learn for people moving from windows to linux. Linux Mint is also a great option.

You can check protonDB for game compatibility, but as a general rule any game or emulation will work fine as long as it isn't a multiplayer game with particularly invasive anticheat. All Tom Clancy games should work except for Rainbow Six Siege. It uses Battleeye anticheat, which actually supports linux/steam deck fine, but Ubisoft is currently refusing to enable linux support. People are actively requesting support be enabled daily, so maybe Ubisoft will come around.

Probably comparing her acting in the new Snow White movie to Tommy's acting.

"Sorry I got rid of windows 10 years ago. I can help you install win 7 but nothing newer than that"

Or new incognito window.

I feel like this won't stop anyone who was already refusing to use a Microsoft account for windows. Anyone who was already bypassing the account requirement will still do so, it just will be more difficult. They've accomplished nothing except further pissing off some of their most competent user base.

It's debatable whether this belongs in the Steam Deck community, but these are all high profile games, and having to login with additional online accounts is a significant barrier to play on the Deck.

You can check battery health in desktop mode, by clicking on the battery.

I've had my OLED deck for a little over a year now, and it's still reporting 100% battery health.

The article includes a table showing games with some pretty major fps gains, but those are mostly just for wine. Using Proton there will be minimum fps gains, but it should improve compatibility.

This new Decky plugin lets you have a floating web view for watching Netflix and other video sites while you play.

Is this completely unnecessary? Probably, but some very low-intensity games will probably benefit from it. Being able to watch subway surfers while playing should also increase it's appeal to Gen Z.

Guy modded his steam deck be as small as possible, with the only intended use to be to play with an external controller and AR glasses.

Decky Power Tools already offers this, and I believe there's a desktop setting for it as well. Still very nice to have though.

New launchers are for:

  • Boosteroid Cloud Gaming
  • Stim.io
  • Venge.io
  • Rocketcrab.com
  • WatchParty.me
