It doesn't need to be fully watertight. The rate of water passing into the dry area only needs to be lower than the rate you can pump it out.

Its a misconception that fluid means liquid. A fluid is a substance that has no fixed geometry, and conforms to the environment around it. If you adjust for time, you could make an argument that ice is a fluid, as glaciers flow almost like a river. Steam is definitely a fluid, as are all liquids and gases.

That close quarters trench clearing is nuts. How anyone has the courage to do that is beyond my comprehension

I'm actually just commenting because I've been told lemmy only considers a community to be active if a user has commented or posted to a forum. It'd be nice to see this place grow.

I'm really hoping this forum will become similar to what r/CD is on reddit. While I do find your comment funny, it doesn't encourage the thoughtful discussion that made that community valuable.

Just gonna edit my comment to add that I'm aware that some activity in this forum is better than nothing, and I don't mean to be rude. I'd like to trigger some discussion myself, but don't really have a lot to contribute.
