I’m just now realizing the 19th is the day before Easter and orthodox Easter (happy belated Passover too!) - I can’t decide if that’s going to help, hurt, or nada.

Quite literally, yes. But not everyone sees the 13 colonies as a good thing - and they have a point. Still, I think we can celebrate our shared ideals - as you said: federation, liberty, and justice for all. Not liberty for some, but libre for all. Sorry if this comes off a little hot, I do completely agree with you and I’m here for it.

When I lived in a similar tourist town our line of thinking was, well surely they’ll have to finally provide housing once the cost of living within commuting distance of servants becomes impossible (ignorant, I know now). They cracked down on the unhoused a lot and really no space for them to go anyway.
Then I started to see old neighbors of mine in the parking lot of our apartment complex. One woman in particular, retirement age, former nurse. She was living inside her car, with no job, nothing. No family. Notably someone who wanted a job but just couldn’t get one. Some people in our complex would rotate taking her in, but without services in the area to help her it was just unsustainable. And management. Fucking landlords. They’d make us pay a fee for having her stay if they found out. This was ten years ago even.
I had to finally move my family out, I was fortunate enough to do so. But I’ll never forget her, and I’m sure she’s either in that car or on the streets now and it just breaks my fucking heart. I can’t stop fighting now when people like her are just trying to fucking survive.
It undoubtedly represents some horrific times in our history. But the beauty of it, imo, is that we can make it stand for anything we want. We do not have to let them define that for us, nor do we have to let the weight of the past make it unusable now. So yeah, I would very much like seeing people carry the flag, and the flag alone, alongside the protest signs.

MAGA has their own symbols now, conveniently leaving everything American without being accompanied by Trump on it bizarrely open for reclamation. One of the biggest opportunities I see for our moment is reclaiming American iconography, including the flag.

Yeah no that’s why you set a date because we’re not working around this one rando, it’s why the poster says (a weekend!) because most people dont know, and that’s the first thing a lot of people need to know. If this person wants to do more there are lots of outlets to do so, that’s great. But do not ignore these large gatherings.
These universities should be offering shelter and refuge to every last possible student who could have been and still will be threatened by this administration. God knows they can fucking afford it. Our kids deserve to know their schools aren’t going to throw them under the bus at the first sign of trouble.
