Lemmit's not part of this community, though. Having access to another instance doesn't make this instance "worse", it just gives users here more options. If you don't want to see it, you don't have to.

My last point is talking about instances like Lemmit, hence why I mentioned it specifically.

I think defederating instances that post illegal content makes sense, as the admins are responsible for the content on their server.

I think defederating instances that host belligerent users and content makes sense, because it protects those that are targeted by them.

I don't think defederating instances that post content some people don't want to see makes sense, a la Lemmit. If the admins want to go that far, you might as well close off the entire fediverse and only host content at your personal approval. Dunno why you'd need a Lemmy instance for that.

Not that this instance isn't great, but the point of the fediverse is to interconnect different instances, yeah? But some/most instances seem to block these communities from searches unless you're signed into their instance with an account or into another instance and, I assume, allow NSFW in your settings. I know they're supposed to pop up if they are searched for from another instance, but how is the name of the community supposed to be found out if it can't be found from outside that instance?

As an example, if you search go to [email protected] from here, you can see the community, but if you go to it from lemmit.online, there's nothing there. You can't even see it in the community list. I'm not sure how it got connected here, but as far as anyone outside of that instance can tell, it doesn't exist.
