there are no settings for all the shit, just some of it, that Microsoft is permitting to switch off. you therefore just have a half-still-shit-on system. that's totally fine, i don't expect anyone to invest time into anything. we ain't got much to start with. but no one using windows is really in control

exactly lol 0 street cred for that

this meme is especially true for students and the likes 😂 whenever you share a one-room flat with a laptop made by clueless techbros for clueless techbros, the increased fan whirring really shines.

to be fair you need it for 24fps movies. however, on 144Hz monitors it's entirely pointless indeed

man it's so cool how they flex their legal muscle, but can Nintendo also pull off a new Pokemon game that doesn't suck ass? 😂

true but nvidia could solve this problem in a day easily. they just have to admit that their business moved on and they make more money with ai. then open source and cc-license all gaming related gpu tech. then the gaming graphics landscape will flourish.

right now they have a walled garden but forgot to build a gate into the wall so it's just there to allow the 10 gpu owners to upload cool 4k Cyberpunk videos

it's not a wrong meme but valve is ok to do this because the device, like many consoles, is a loss leader.

however, try to even find the Linux desktop mode on a ps5/xbox... in this way we're still treated above and beyond what's industry standard.

microsoft, on the other hand, has overstayed their welcome so often and so obnoxiously, people just don't want any of their shit

we got a champion-level pun here in the form of the word regard, friend 😎👍

in a framework where people are just alive to mate this is a valid theory, but women can also self-express in more ways than offering sex 😂 also, people who only act on their instincts are even more dead than the ones that never act on their instincts. whenever your mode of operation is exactly and only one, never changing, that's not a good thing.

anyways, i agree with the core here, which is that vast amounts of the population heavily communicate what criteria others have to fulfill to be desirable. I'd much rather prefer everyone does what they want and chill out

Hey y'all, I bought a x4x4x4x4 4 slots M.2 PCIe card foolishly thinking that if it fits in the slot, it would surely work. In the end, I got 2 of the 4 SSDs working on my old AM4 X470 chipset. I'm coming to you for advice what the cheapest way to get to use this would be. I've noticed that a lot of CPUs have a PCIe lane limitation of 28, just short of what I need (I'd like to run the SSDs but also a x16 GPU). I'm not too keen to buy a threadripper setup for this occasion...

Cheers!

HDR Confusion (lemy.lol)
submitted 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) by SitD@lemy.lol to c/linux_gaming@lemmy.world

Hey fellas, could you help me understand a bit more about HDR?

  • I understand that it's an absolute brightness standard, not like the relative levels in SDR
  • But why does it end up washing out colors unless I amplify them in kwin? Is just the brightness absolute in nits, but not the color?
  • Why does my screen block the brightness control in HDR mode but not contrast? And why does the contrast increase the brightness of highlights, instead of just split midtones towards brighter and darker shades?
  • Why is truehdr400 supposed to be better in dark rooms than peak1000 mode?
  • Why is my average emission capped at 270nits, that seems ridiculously low even for normal SDR screens as comparison.

Cheers 😊

Edit: It's a QD OLED
