TIL the Technology Connections guy is on Lemmy via Mastadon.

And that's awesome!

Yup, came here to say that as well. it's al bots. The active users graph is much more realistic.

And I've been seeing some...odd looking.... comments recently from users at instances known for being mostly bots. Some of these comments really look AI generated, and have a suspicious number of upvotes.

I just noticed we were at 0.18! Nice work @smorks! Now to take this thing for a spin and see how it handles on the curves!

Edit: I just looked at those Release Notes. That's an impressive list of bug fixes and improvements! And also a very impressive list of new contributors helping develop this software. Kudos to all of them!

Both lemmy.world and lemmy.ml, and some other instances, were victims of a DDOS attack due to a bug in the new 0.18 Lemmy software

See this post for more info.

Well, that's a brilliant workaround until this is fixed. Thanks!

Freedom of expression is very much a two way street, and does not mean 'free from consequences' if someone says something vile.

I am quite free to make rules, and enforce them, for the communities I moderate, just as someone else is free to find a forum where, for example, they can express vile racist, homophobic slurs.

Tolerance cannot extend to tolerating others' intolerance, or discourse is not possible.

This:

Article summarized by AI below

and this:

The article argues that artificial intelligence (AI) is not a threat to humanity

is a rather funny juxtaposition of statements. Of course, an evil AI that was a threat to humanity would summarize the article that way!

It's coming. You said that 'it's been fixed in a recent release', but no, it's been fixed in latest version they're working on right now that hasn't been released yet. There is a release candidate being tested, but it has a few bugs still so there will be at least one more release candidate that has to be tested for a bit before being released.

User migration as well as community migration in case of instances going into a black hole would indeed be useful features.

This has been known for a while, but this information seems to be gaining more traction lately with the general public. The recommendations are to ensure you have an exhaust fan that vents to the outside above your range, and to use it each and every time your range is turned on. Of course, that's not something most people do.

If there are other useful and safer alternatives then it makes sense to scrap the wire bristle brushes entirely.

I don’t have any fancy graphs to show the community’s growth

Hang on....

A community to discuss print science fiction and speculative fiction in all its forms.

I welcome any comments and input into making this a great Lemmy community!

Have fun!

Yup, it still works. The hose was replaced long ago, so that's not original. I have a really nice cordless Dyson that I use for day to day vacuuming, but this one lives downstairs and still does the job when its asked of it.

A place to discuss and post videos, photos, and other content of all kinds of vintage and retro technology. Radios, phones, appliances, steam shovels, that weird gizmo from your grandma's kitchen, you name it!

There are already some excellent communities on Lemmy for retro PCs specifically, so those kind of posts should go there instead.

Upon joining Lemmy I noticed there was no similar community here yet, so I created one.

A place to discuss and show off your vintage and retro technology. Avoid discussion of retro personal computers here but almost any other retro and old technology photos, videos, and discussion is welcome and encouraged.

Another useful video showing some information on choosing the best scooter for your needs.

When I joined, just a few days ago, the number of users at lemmy.ca had just climbed above a thousand. I see that now it's well over two thousand.

That's quite the growth!

I've always enjoyed the Rider Guide videos. Here's a recent one if anyone is looking for something affordable but reliable.

A friendly and respectful place to debate various topics pertaining to atheism (and therefore theism). I'm interested in thoughts on moderation style, rules, types of posts to encourage and allow, etc. Feel free to comment!
