Are you single? Food shop with a family is not feasible with the weather and roads here. Vegan too so a lot bulkier. Tins, bottles of juice, fruit and veg, dog food, etc. it barely fits in the car.

Move furniture about all the time, last week I took my garden furniture to my SILs for a party she is having.

Away doing something most weekends yes, kids demand it. Can’t exactly put the pram on a bike either so even with great public transport the weather makes doing anything without shelter unpractical.

Heavier or more awkward than you can comfortably carry. Weekly/monthly food shop, furniture, weekend getaways, etc.

Well yes that is what I was referencing. That is how many people use them; out at restaurants, public places, at friends, etc. Often they are watching TV on them anyway.

But outwith that they have a whole host of problems even when used correctly and little upside. Autoplay, bright colors, fast-paced and visually rich interfaces. Locked in 20cm from the screen. Instead of learning to entertain yourself quietly. Engaging with your other senses.

Exception is well developed education apps for cognitive impairments, developmental delays, etc where the crazy engagement the design envokes can be useful.

It’s not a feature that’s implemented, just an idea. I did see something similar floating around as a proposal last year though

Been on Reddit since the digg migration, ran a few big subs at various points. It’s unusable now. Automod filters silently remove so much. So many people speaking into a void. Mods are increasingly ban happy. Lifetime bans from the default subs for daring to question Israel with facts, or calling someone thick as fuck. My last account got nuked for making a guillotine joke.

Fake news and conservative misinformation subs are rampant, creating a mainstream pipeline for the general public into all this delusional shite. They are a major contributor to the current algorithmically induced psychosis epidemic tearing apart society.

Lemmy is good now, agreed. Same flawed moderation system however. At least it’s a bit more transparent here usually and communities are a bit more decentralised. Maybe moving away from individual communities to something like combined feeds (ie subscribe to @uk and you see all uk communities) could help mitigate any one community gaining dominance.

Unless you’re transporting anything of a decent size which most people do frequently.

Not practical to have zero cars. Residential areas aren’t set up for it. How you going to get your shopping in with 2 kids when it’s pissing of rain like it is 70% of the time here in Scotland.

Priority should be public transport with cheap public autonomous taxis that can drive 24/7 and unclutter the streets.

More worryingly, shoving them in front of a tablet every time they’re being difficult means they don’t learn how to regulate their emotions.

Difference between my daughter and her cousins is night and day. Few studies confirming this correlation with violent outbursts later in life too now.

Tried giving it her on a plane once and she had no idea what to do with it and sat and played with her toys instead, so not that intuitive. She has a mechanical keyboard hooked up to a Pi instead.

Also your link is broken

Look how long Facebook, etc operated at a loss for. They’re in the top 10 sites (top 5 maybe iirc). They can do what they want, they have the users. People will throw money at them until they don’t. Microsoft’s best shot at rivalling Google search. They haven’t even put ads in the responses yet.

Why is it decreasing so much. Shouldn’t it be flat?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

I’ll take it.

Rampant when I was growing up. Most people have had it. Some of my dirtier pals, dozens of times.
