We've moved past oligarchy into kleptocracy in the last few weeks.

Not all geoengineering is the same. Beavers are geoengineers. We have already had a crazy huge impact on this planet, we should absolutely do something to mitigate these effects. A distributed (as opposed to all in one location) carbon cycle buffer is about the least harmful effect one can hope for and still have a positive impact.

Those bicarbonate ions are great for combating ocean acidification, they act as a pH buffer. Ocean acidification is rising due to increased atmospheric CO2 levels and that decrease in pH makes it harder for macro life forms to utilize carbonates to form shells and drives extinction. By increasing the concentration of bicarbonate, the carrying capacity of the ocean to absorb atmospheric CO2 without changing the pH is increased.

The economic system we are in is political. If we had privacy protections a lot of those apps would have less incentive to enshitify. Allowing predatory companies to prey on people's ignorance or laziness is a political choice.

Damn, we (Americans) don't even have 1 person 1 vote... But I agree with the sentiment.

Seems like a great reason to shave your beard.

Feature Request:

Optional timer to pop up a warning based on when the viewer opened the app. This is to help limit usage. Ideally either have the timer based on time open this time or total usage time per day/week.

I scroll all:scaled fairly often, as my list of subs isn't super active, but there are some communities that come up fairly often that I would rather not see. Is there a way to implement that on the client side or would that require a Lemmy change?

With as much as AI like chatGPT are used to aid in programming is anyone working on developing AI as an iterative attack surface to probe networks?

There are some obvious ethical concerns, but I can see a future with AI red and blue team actors playing a substantial role in network security.

I love Octavia Butler and N.K. Jemisin's work, but most of the solarpunk content I've come across is short stories. What would y'all recommend that I can get lost in for a while?
