There's more with an agreement. Some also have a partial agreement, where only a written test is necessary. Here's the full list, if you're interested: https://www.german-way.com/for-expats/living-in-germany/german-drivers-license-reciprocity/

Can you tell/show me how/where I can use OSM as a replacement for Google Maps. I've given OsmAnd a try and found it lacking.

I ran a few tests such as searching for my local library. Unfortunately I had to use the exact wording ("Stadtbibliothek") rather than simpler, more common wording ("Bibliothek"). The Google map found it immediately. Similarly I searched for a local Café, which I easily found in Google Maps (despite not capitalising anything). Meanwhile the business is not present in OSM, despite being the most popular Café in my town.

Additionally navigation doesn't work for me for regions I haven't downloaded. How would I go about getting it to work for navigation to places further afield that I haven't downloaded?

Unfortunately this seems all to plausible. Despite Firefox and ad blocking in general, there's very few services that rival Google's Android and (in my opinion) none that can honestly rival Maps at present.

[–] jjpamsterdam@feddit.org 15 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

So, it's basically a loss leader in this scenario to feed other sevices like the ad network?

driving license was another one mentioned. Having it not expire before you can transfer it is preferable

This is a giant, often overlooked issue. My home country of the Netherlands for example doesn't allow a simple transef and makes you take a test (because road safety is important to Dutch people!). In Germany it's even worse. There it depends on the state you obtained your US license in, since Germany has agreements with some states but not all...

I realise that Google places ads in the native Gmail environment. However, when using a third party front end to embed the Google services, how does the company make money off that? When I use Thunderbird to access Gmail or the Google Calendar or when I map my Google Drive to the file explorer, how can Google profit from this kind of use?

Awesome! I didn't even realise it, but this is a great recipe for Lent.

Sorry, I added the pic directly instead of linking to it. The picture is from the original recipe source.

Ongelooflijk en triest. Als kind jaagde ik daar achter duiven aan. Nu wordt het steeds gevaarlijker.

Although it's not Friday yet, we made this simple yet delicious fish.

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg floury potatoes
  • 800 g carrots & mangetout
  • 520 g fresh cod fillets
  • 75 g breadcrumbs
  • 2 medium sized free range eggs
  • 2 tbsp wheat flour
  • 2 tbsp (olive) oil
  • 30 g fresh parsley
  • 25 g unsalted butter
  • 150 ml semi-skimmed milk
  • 0.5 tsp dried nutmeg

Directions:

Peel the potatoes, cut into equal pieces and cook them in plenty of water with salt, if necessary, for 20 min until tender. Meanwhile, cook the carrots for 8 min. During the last 2 min, add the snow peas. Drain in a colander and rinse briefly under cold running water.

Cut the cod fillet into 4 pieces. Put the breadcrumbs in a deep dish. Beat the eggs in a second plate.

Sprinkle the cod fillets with the flour, pepper and salt. Pass the cod through the egg and breadcrumbs successively.

Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan and fry the cod fillets in 8-10 min. until golden brown. Turn halfway through.

Finely chop the parsley. Drain the potatoes. Add the butter, milk, parsley and nutmeg and mash with the masher to a coarse puree. Season with pepper and salt, if necessary. Divide the cod fillet with the parsley puree and vegetables among the plates.

Can confirm. I've lived in the Netherlands, France and Germany for basically all my life and I don't recall ever actively saying thank you to a bus driver. I don't even remember when last I exchanged any words with one thanks to modern fare systems.

On the contrary I say thank you to cashiers at the supermarket or staff at the bakery several times per week.

Met deze ontwikkeling zou het Nederlandse leger evenveel personeel hebben als in de jaren tachtig.

In conclusion: chickpeas are awesome and I love them

This recipe has become one of my personal favourites. It's quick and easy to prepare, yet also delicious and healthy. What's not to like?

Ingredients:

  • 2 red onions
  • 4 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 cucumber
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp mild olive oil
  • 200 g falafel
  • 8 tortilla wraps
  • 200 g spicy hummus
  • 75 g julienne carrots

Directions:

Slice the onions into wafer-thin rings and place in a heatproof bowl.

Bring the vinegar to a boil in a small saucepan, pour over the onion, season with pepper, stir and leave until ready to use. Halve the cucumber lengthwise, remove the seeds with a teaspoon.

Halve the halves widthwise and slice the pieces lengthwise into thin slices. Slice the tomatoes into 1cm slices.

Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the falafel for 5 min. Turn halfway through.

Heat the tortilla wraps according to the instructions on the packaging. Spread the wraps with the hummus and divide the carrot julienne, tomato, cucumber, falafel and pickled onion over them.

Fold the sides of the wraps inwards and roll the wraps up from bottom to top. Halve diagonally and divide the wraps over plates.

PVV nog steeds de sterkste partij, maar gedaald naar 30 zetels. De partijen uit het politieke midden winnen allemaal zetels. NSC en BBB nauwelijks nog relevant.

We made this yesterday and it was a great success with our daughter. It's really easy to make, if you have access to store bought Spaetzle. If you don't, there are numerous recipes to make them yourself

Ingredients:

  • 2 onions
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 400 g cherry tomatoes
  • 100 g baby spinach
  • 500 g of Spätzle
  • Salt
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • Pepper
  • 0.5 tbsp sugar
  • 200 g sour cream
  • 30 g Parmesan (grated)

Directions:

Peel the onions, halve them and cut them into strips. Peel the garlic and cut them into slices. Wash and halve the tomatoes. Wash the spinach and shake dry. Prepare the spaetzle in hot salted water according to the instructions on the packet. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large pan. Fry the onions and garlic until translucent, add 300 g of the tomatoes and fry briefly. Season with salt, pepper and sugar. Stir in the sour cream and Parmesan. Drain the spaetzle, let it drain and mix it with the spinach into the tomatoes. Allow the spinach to wilt slightly. Season with salt and pepper and serve sprinkled with the remaining tomatoes.
