anything ai generated just feels deeply wrong if its supposed to be anything other than wanting to see how some idea might look like. I dont listen to much music so ai generated music can sound pretty good to me, but even then I still notice that there is no unifying idea in the details, just bunch of random threads that go nowhere. There is no reason for anything to be there in ai generated content because there can't be any reason since ai can't do anything by itself. Its so stupid they even call it ai because there is no intelligence involved.

not damaging a car, what he considers attacking his ego by damaging his worthless scrap heaps. Weight on the word his, as they remain his cars even if you pay for them. he can take control of them or do whatever so you literally can't even own a tesla, only suck up to musk.

to me, ai is a bit like bucket of water if you replace the water with "information". Its a tool and it cant do anything on its own, you could make a program and instruct it to do something but it would work just as chaotically as when you generate stuff with ai. It annoys me so much to see so many(people in general) think that what they call ai is in anyway capable of independent action. It just does what you tell it to do and it does it based on how it has been trained, which is also why relying on ai trained by someone you shouldnt trust is bad idea.

i think so too. And even if they wouldnt be doing this, we should still treat it as if they are and fix the problem of it being even possible to gather information about users using 0-click methods like this.

Not really, but I have observed some commonalities about what is usually needed for what. This is also why I want to have ublock as first line of defence -> if something is blocked on that by default then its definitely something you dont want to allow anyway so its a little safer to experiment with noscript.

Also, with noscript you need to constantly adjust it when going to new websites. Default settings breaking things is more of a feature than fault to me. Its about taking more control over things rather than trusting everything by default. But after you identify what is safe to allow, you dont need to adjust more things if site itself doesnt change something which you will notice rightaway due to things breaking again.

Its really hard to list any helpful tips about what to look out for since its mostly just intuition for me and halfremembered things about what I have seen before. Its probably more helpful for each user to develop these practices themselves anyway. But test things by temporarily allowing stuff and permanently allow only those things you are relatively sure about. Also start by allowing the scripts from the main site and work your way from there.

On some sites the list of scripsites can have insane amount of entries. I tend to try stay away from those sites as its also good indication there is nothing worthwhile there anyway. If you absolutely need to use those anyway and think you should be able to trust the site due to them likely not doing anything illegal anyway, there is temporary allow everything button which basically disables noscript for that site for the session.

Also sometimes when i allow scripts, they disappear from the list. I'm not sure what that is about, maybe it has something to do with me running ublock too or it has something to do with how the scripts are loaded in general. I havent had any problems with it so I havent investigated it. Also sometimes when i allow stuff, more sites appear so its more likely something to do with how some scripts call other scripts and maybe have redundancies if some dont seem to work.

i use both ublock and noscript, ublock is much more lenient about allowing javascript so its good first line of defence. I try to allow only those javascripts that are absolutely necessary to what i want to do. So many sites have tons of unnecessary ones that do who knows what.

i'm kind of surprised us hasnt just been disregarding the avian flu and used the diseased chickens as if there was nothing wrong, that would fit with everything else going on

Planetside 2 as it was many years ago. I'll be forever bitter how they ruined it.

If I look at recorded playtime then its teamfortress 2 which wins just by 0.1h over rimworld and I havent really played tf2 for over 10 years.

I guess I know not to buy more from then in that case. I'm tired of playing same slop from different companies that dont want to try anything new. DRG is good game but it also feels like its not living up to its fullest potential, now i know why.

I probably need to start my own business anyway to find any work, so why not try to make some money out of fighting the corporations too.

The idea of my business is to give it-support to regular people, but instead of only helping them with problems with windows and such, I want to instead gently help them start using linux, leave corporate social media in favour of fediverse, use opensource software, block ads. I think there is value to this for those people also because it helps one save money and stay safer in general.

I can also foresee a lot of resistance to this, so many have ideas about how linux for example is awful to use despite never even trying it, same with any other thing that deviates from the usual.

Also, in case the idea manages to succeed, I also want to plan some more fair way to distribute the profits than "owner takes most and workers can be happy if they get the scraps" model we currently have to endure everywhere. The workers should also have a say in how the company is run. But the problem with that is how to prevent bad people from getting in and ruining it for all. Probably more than that too.

This way it should hopefully easier to find help too though not initially, i think, since wages are tied to the amount of money made instead of some hard number that doesnt change even if profits go up.

The general idea of this whole thing is also to not just become another piece of shit exploiting others for own gain, that is how we have got into this mess in the first place.

Also, maybe on other fields there are similar ways to do the same?

Genuinely trying to help people and making some safeguards to prevent the whole thing, if successful, corrupting into yet another profit chasing monstrosity should do at least something. I dont think this fight will see its end at any of our lifetime, but as long as we keep at it, there is some hope.

Hey

What most useful guidebooks or other information focused books do you know?

I need some advice regarding which distro to choose. I tried installing fedora workstation on my laptop as test and it seemed quite annoying to get the user interface right.

I dont mind the technical differences, in fact i'm looking forward to them as linux is more secure and better designed.

The problem i'm having is that i want the good things from windows desktop. for example; tray icons, being able to control filesystem easily with gui, shortcuts on desktop.

Every distro i have tried or seen has been really basic regarding this out of the box with very little customization options. I prefer not having to download million extensions for every little feature that might stop working at every major update or if developer doesnt feel like continuing.

I also would like to be able to easily backup customization settings so i dont have to do everything again if i need to reinstall. I like being able to easily customize everything so having a lot of settings is good thing for me.

I read somewhere about kde plasma and screenshots seemed promising and downloaded kde fedora. Haven't installed it yet but am I on the right track for what i'm looking for? Are there other even better choices? I'd like to nail this from the start so I dont have to reinstall later. I really dont want to wade through every possible distro.

Thank you all, you have been big help

Specificially https://en.z-lib.gs/

I downloaded some pdfs from there and according to virustotal and some pdf online scanner i tried, they have something possibly malicious going on in them. I already deleted them but i opened them in firefox pdf reader. I dont have acrobat installed.

Scanning my system with malwarebytes now, but nothing is finding anything wrong and I havent seen any suspicious activity.

Here is the analysis itself.

I'm starting to panic, please help if you have any advice

Thank you all, you are wonderful people

Link to list of searchengines, provided by irenesteam in the comments

Old post text for history. This post turned out to become quite a mess.

spoiler

Previously I was looking for search engine that turned out it wasnt worth remembering afterall. As people helped, i thought its easier to just list every site its not. The site I was looking for turned out to be maintained by some rightwing assholes, but I thought maybe it could still be useful as it collects scrapers from many engines into one site. But since it apparently blocks lqbt domains, its basically worthless since who knows what else it blocks. Apparently anything those fucks touch is tainted.

I tried describing the site based on what I remembered and how it appeared to me. now it feels shameful even leaving it as context. The picture gets conveyed through the comments anyway for those interested.

I'm sorry it ended up like this, I should probably have done this much eariler and not give the site any benefit of the doubt.

So, instead lets make this into list of search engines so this post might have at least something positive about it. I already started gathering the list earlier as by product of the unfortunate search. It might be better to just scrap this all and start with new post but it would also erase what happened and the lesson learned.

I know there are lists already, but I dont think they all have every engine, especially smaller or newer ones. We could also gather information about engines' maintainers, stuff that helps determine what to expect from them. I'll try gathering it here on this post from the comments and if I find something myself.

Lets avoid all ai searchers since those ought to be in their own category anyway.

Is there some way to really know when you microphone is being used on android 13? I know there are notifications for it if applications are using it and it might even display some icon, but that doesnt really help if the phone is in my pocket.

In f-droid, there used to be application called vigilante that did this, but it's development was discontinued because apparently its features are part of android itself now, according to its github page.

I also don't know if the system itself can be trusted to always tell me. I started thinking about it more when I noticed that google play wants to update some 'qualcomm voice assist' application that was installed without my permission and isnt even displayed on the list of applications. I also cant modify its permissions so i have to assume it has permission to do anything.

So is there any program or anything that lets you know when mic is recording and maybe even if phone is transmitting that information, even if android itself isnt telling me about it.

I wish i could just install some better operating system, but that isnt an option for me at the moment.

Thanks to reddit becoming such a shitshow, it pushed so many people to lemmy. I know all this has existed for a while now, but with all the users now its really wonderful. Also many people likely wouldn't have known to come here if they weren't leaving reddit first.

Now, I was never that active in reddit and it probably had started to go bad even before I joined first time so I likely dont have enough context to properly compare, but so far lemmy has been so much better than I have seen reddit be even before it really started to go downhill.

I think lemmy will also be better than reddit could ever have been.

I hope this time it wont burn down

Is there any way in firefox to completely remove shorts shelf from youtube? Some extension maybe?
