According to their Wikipedia, Techdirt only accepted money from Charles Koch's foundation for a lawsuit (amongst other donors), and are owned by Floor64.

Floor 64's website only has 2 people listed in their management team, but I couldn't dig up if either are linked to the Koch's (I was pretty cursory about it though).

The article was worth a read for this quote alone:

VGHF library director Phil Salvador puts it even more simply: “Generative AI video is a great way to preserve video games, in the sense that mirages are a great source of water.”

I'm literally so confused, what are you even arguing about anymore? That Pew poll regarding scientific distrust is specifically related to the Covid pandemic, but you're taking about measles, and also how this has been going on for a decade. Which is it, and why are the sociological elements I've mentioned before not value added according to your authority?

All this over a simple comment about the Human Genome Project.

Again, enjoy your crashout. If you feel validated, that's all that matters ig 🤷‍♂️

Measles vaccinations being down can also be linked to mandatory vaccination laws being taken off the books across states during the last decade. It says nothing about the inherent levels of scientific education of the parents doing so.

Previously, parents were mandated by law to have their children vaccinated at birth or to attend schools. We don't know if they would have opted to vaccinate their kids if it wasn't mandatory, and it definitely doesn't point to them "appreciating science" more.

Again, very condescending reply from you, considering correlation /= causation is a basic rule of research.

Enjoy your crashout, ig.

Then let me be succinct: There was never any "science appreciation" among the general public, and if you think there was, you're in a bubble. A specific, most likely higher educated and most likely American bubble. You're just hearing voices outside the bubble now.

Condescending comments like your reply might contribute to the science derision though, just saying.

Sure, but "fine" is not really what I want for a Zelda movie, personally. And judging by the apprehension of a lot of the Zelda fanbase, they seem to have similar sentiments.

Also I'm not really sure why my other comment is getting downvoted, it was just what I observed in my circle of family/friends/coworkers. Apologies to any long time Mario fans I offended.

Science derision, has been around for forever, look up the history of anti-vaccination leagues in the UK and US in response to the small pox vaccine in the 1800s. There were antivax parents at my primary school in the 90s too. They were just in pockets of small communities before, and therefore wielded less power. Social media has allowed them to gather into one town square and allowed them to reinforce each other's delusions, amplify their voices, spread (aptly) like a virus, and most importantly tie it to a political/culture war.

Or it's the consequences of lead and heavy metals poisoning finally coming to their natural conclusion regarding the function of the human brain.

I hate to tell you this, but the Human Genome Project the meme is referencing was completed in 2003 and published in 2004.

Time sure flies 🥲

I think I've seen loose cornflakes and stuff at Bulk Barn? But I'm not sure where they would be sourcing it from.

I think it was well received with children? Most adults I know who saw it basically shrugged, said it was fine, and then eagerly awaited Super Mario Bros Wonder instead.

... I don't think you understand what's going on in Serbia if you think there's voting happening. Have a good day.

The hours I spent on that FUCKING DICE GAME

Visible support from government/establishment officials of the Serbian student anti-corruption protests. The students that the sitting Serbian government is trying to freeze and starve into submission.

Again, contrast that to what the US did to their students during the pro-Palestine university encampments.

We Americans need to open our fucking eyes, clapback tweets and watching leopards eating faces is just the new bread and circus. Holding up "fact checking signs" during a Trump speech will not save us.

I love interacting with you all very much, and I know there's a lot of important political issues in the world going on right now. I love my Linux Mint setup, I support Palestine and trans people, and I've blazed through all of OG Star Trek, TNG, Voyager, and am now on DS9.

But I also want to discuss Luka to the Lakers and Kendrick calling Drake a pedophile and getting 5 Grammy's, a tour, and a Superbowl halftime show out of it, you know? I wanna talk about your country's Eurovision entries. Am I just not in the right communities?

American Tiktok users would rather use ACTUAL Chinese spyware app than Meta. XiaoHongShu (meaning "Little Red Book") and ChatGPT (for translating the Mandarin only app) are currently #1 and #2 on the App store.

This is not my personal opinion, I know Gen Z men who voted for Harris. But the voter demographics really speak for themselves, and maybe now people will look at the radicalization of young men as a serious (but solvable) issue.

I posted on asklemmy the other day asking for advice on how to catch a stray cat, and I am now posting the fruits of my labour. Huge thanks to everyone in that post for taking the time to give me step-by-step instructions, telling me their own experiences with strays, and just being concerned about both mine and the stray's wellbeing!

Here he is at the vet for a check up after I caught him. Honestly, he seemed so happy to be indoors and somewhere warm and safe that I teared up a bit! He is currently in my garage sleeping on a heated cat bed and couldn't be more content as I try to figure out next steps.

There's a cat that has been loose on my street since May apparently, but only came into my yard Thursday night. I tried to catch it, but it bit me and ran away. Someone has also shaved it for some reason, and I want to catch since it's getting colder in the evenings. I saw the cat last night too was and was friendly to me, but it had a bit of a cough, so I'm worried. Didn't see it tonight, and it's really cold and windy.

A couple of my neighbours have been feeding it, but no real effort in trying to trap it or check to see if it's microchipped. I want to take it to the vet and see if it has an owner/check for diseases. Apparently the cat likes dry food over wet, so I don't think leaving cans of wet food will work.

Any advice given from experienced pet owners/ trappers would be helpful.

"...For Nvidia, after this latest run-up took it north of the $3T milestone, the company is being valued at more than $100M for each of its 29,600 employees (per its filing that counted up to the end of Jan 2024).

That’s more than 5x any of its big tech peers, and hundreds of times higher than more labor-intensive companies like Walmart and Amazon. It is worth noting that Nvidia has very likely done some hiring since the end of January — I think the company might be in growth mode — but even if the HR department has been working non-stop, Nvidia will still be a major outlier on this simple measure.

We are running out of ways to describe Nvidia’s recent run... but a nine-figure valuation per employee is a new one."

I know this is more business than tech related, but for some reason I am not able to post it to the business community, so I'm posting it here.

The Verge published this spam article about the "best printers of 2024" to demonstrate how terrible Google's search results are. It now appears as the top non-sponsored post if you search "best printer" on Google.

I love a good, informative troll.

I read this update posted last night on the r/iPhone discord, and have not seen this posted anywhere yet. Please feel free to direct this to the proper community if this is out of place.

I highlighted the relevant sentence, but it seems that the moderators are discussing how to proceed after the initial Reddit blackout behind the scenes, and having the communities being unmoderated is one of the potential options.

How do people feel about going back to an unmoderated Reddit?
