Once my mam got sick of missing phonecalls in the evening. Early noughties I think.

I don't know anything about gardening but I have a small patch of gravel out front where I like to keep some potted plants. My acer's leaves came back healthy after winter but as you can see it isn't doing too good now. I thought the crispy leaves might be because I let it dry out (I was ill for a couple weeks when we had some dry, sunny weather), but looking at the base I noticed this white stuff: https://i.imgur.com/2qc87P3.jpeg, not sure if it's scale or something else? Any ideas what I can do? I see a fair number of tiny bugs and ants in the soil but I'm not sure what's normal. I'm located in the UK, if that matters.

  1. Hollow knight
  2. Fallout 3

Don't think I can choose a 3rd place there's too many to pick from. FF7 was the first that came to mind.

I end up there from Google a lot, mostly because the other search results are usually ads or clickbait. I haven't posted or logged into my account since rif went down.

Oh god I didn't even think about Silksong D:

i think it really captures the cultural zeitgeist

Since some instances were compromised earlier I've been able to access the desktop and mobile sites (just had to log in again) but can't get third party apps to work. Jerboa seems confused whether I'm logged in or not, some pages work and others give a 'not logged in' error - I don't see any option to log out or remove account from the app? Liftoff not working at all, I tried removing and re-linking my account but it's hanging when I try to sign in. Are the apps down for everyone just now, or is there something I can do to fix it?

PS. if anyone knows how to avoid Firefox crashing when using it to view Lemmy as a webapp (is that the right term??) please enlighten me because it crashes whenever I lock my phone or tab over to another app.

PPS. I hope it's okay to ask these kind of support questions here, if there's a dedicated tech support community please point me in the right direction, thanks!

I'm only part way through (a bit past bahamut) so I'm not fully qualified to comment on the game as a whole, and I'm avoiding reviews until I'm finished (also haven't played 14 or 15). So far I'm really enjoying it because it just has that Final Fantasy charm that squeenix are so good at. I love the world, the story is good (if leaning a bit too heavily on game of thrones for my liking), and the characters are likeable enough. Combat got fun once it clicked. That said...

There are a LOT of really obvious things to criticize. Over tutorialized, incredibly boring fetch quests, and progression systems that are wierdly linear and restrictive. It's frustrating because some small tweaks could make it so much better. Let me explore and discover quests for myself instead of witholding them until the game decides to make them available and then spamming me with notifications. Disable the on-screen quest markers or at least let me turn them off (the "animal instinct" feature is neat, don't need more than that). Let me upgrade my weapons past +2 and specialise them with elemental synergies so there isn't just one "correct" gear set to use at any given time. Give different merchants their own unique items to sell. Jill is an interesting character but is underused, that whole descent to the first crystal with Cid, and the cutscene that followed, she was barely given a single line. The titan fights are great ideas but not always fun to play, and too reliant on quicktime events which I thought we'd all agreed kinda sucked several years ago so idk why squeenix didn't get the memo.

But anyway yeah it's pretty and sometimes fun and I can pet the dog so it still gets a thumbs up from me I guess 乁( •_• )ㄏ

I've seen a lot of comments suggesting Threads should be pre-emptively defederated by Lemmy/kbin instances if it tries to join us. I'm a bit confused what the problem would be. When Meta does its usual corporate bullshit over at Threads, how would that hurt a user or community based on Lemmy.world? If anything, wouldn't it give the fediverse a boost if Threads users start discovering communities outside of Meta's control?

I presume I'm missing something, as you can probably tell I don't fully understand how Lemmy, Threads or federation all work.

Right now I just want the bug-free stability, and the well developed communities for every niche subject imaginable, but I'm sure those will come in time.

I'm using Jerboa and the only thing I miss is the "view context" button on my notification messages, and the option to "view parent comment" when viewing an individual comment. Searching and linking between instances needs to become more seemless too, and maybe better integration with things like Mastadon, although I don't use it personally.

I also think up/downvote history being public is a terrible idea and would like to be able to disable that in an account's privacy settings, idk if that will ever be possible.

(Edit) Also the ability to migrate your account and posting history to a different instance, so that users can easily vote with their feet if their home instance gets defererated or makes an unpopular decision. Again idk if that will ever be possible or not

Oof, that's grim. Looks like it's trying to go full Facebook.

Damn this page took a long time to load what with the influx of new users today, that was a long time sitting with my blood pressure rising before I got to the /s lol

Looks good! I've been using Jerboa on list view and finding it pretty close to my old experience on rif.

I think it might be okay in the early stages of a community when they're trying to grow a user base, "build it and they will come" sort of thing. But spamming more content than the community can keep up with is just annoying. I think they should be tweaked to only post a certain number of times per day so there's a chance to get some meaningful engagement on each thread.

Sorry for the potato quality, I think this was taken about 15 years ago. Since greyhounds can't sit comfortably we had to have dog beds and blankets in every room so he always had a cosy spot to lay in.

feel free to use. It would be good to get more people in here.. ^and^ ^hopefully^ ^some^ ^better^ ^artists^^(´@_@`)^

I always love watching people discovering my favorite games for the first time. My favorite blind playthrough is probably Dan Floyd's "bug knight" series on Playframe, and more recently I've enjoyed watching Adamanth and lil Indigestion. Who do you like watching?
