how do you typically notice the filter needs to be changed now? does it:

  • draw more power than usual? wattage sensor
  • give some alert like a “change filter” light? esp32
  • need changing after a certain time/usage amount? power consumption sensor
  • need changing every X days? you might just need a calendar alert

of course the mega nerd approach would be to put a particulate sensor in the duct like a PMS7003 that measures PM10 particles like dust, strap on an esp32 and set some alerts using your favourite monitoring tool.

as someone from the north of England, “scotch” or “ scotch drop” pancakes are very different from crepes and folks here will fight over that

You can always use the Home Assistant API to create your own UI experience. I create small HA touch panels using M5Stack Core2 devices this way.

a clever one - no one will suspect there’s a whole Raspberry Pi inside that mouse, the network admins won’t remove it because it’s too gross, and the cleaners aren’t allowed within 10ft of any network cabinets so the attacker gains +5 persistence by default.

sounds like we need an ETL-as-a-service, Datalake-as-a-service, Dashboard-as-a-service and Shiftleft-as-a-service then!!

I would do this with a home-made esphome (like other have suggested). If it has to be a commercial product, you can buy the shelly addon and attach it to any of their Z-wave 1pm products like this one for example.

The addon supports up to four temperature probes and the cables can be many metres long.

i like the premise and look forward to part two. it was a bit slow to get into the action and youtube inserted three unskippable ads to test my resolve

I know they’re not as beautiful as some of the posts here, and my resource distribution needs a bit of work.

My challenge to myself was to build factories that are a complete solution and fit in the blueprint designer mk2. The idea is that each factory takes raw materials and produces a single high tier part (like turbo motors or radios). All the parts get fired into the dimensional uploader.

I can scale my part production by just building more of the kind of factory that I need. Currently I have two of each.
