I have generalized anxiety disorder and adhd. I wish i could control my anxiety and impulsive thoughts completely

For me, Duolingo plus middle school and highschool spanish has helped me tremendously. It does get repetitive and daunting at points but that's honestly a good thing as it reinforces and reminds you of certain things you may forget or get wrong.

The gamification of it actually helped me push harder than i would have thought being competitive for the weekly rankings as well as with my ADHD.

Of course I'm still not amazing at spanish but I can hold a very simple conversation, follow along with conversations people are speaking and pick up on context, speak to spanish speakers where they compliment it and say it's perfect, and I can read it and write it very well.

It could very well just be me and my dedication to it but with a 61 day streak and at minimum of 15 minutes a day while using a journal to write down any and everything I can and practicing Spanish at work, while watching spanish cartoons, I would say Duolingo has been absolutely worth it for me

I singled out Ashkenazi jews as most westerners aren't aware of other groups such as Mizrahi or Sephardi. It was for ease of following conversation in case anyone else stumbled upon the comment thread. And yeah, I was referring to the original pronunciation of the letter and the original form of the Tetragrammaton.

In terms of the usage of Adonai, Elohim, El Shaddai, or even Hashem, those are used at titles such as "Lord" and not the actual name of the Deity of Abraham correct? When you said "multiple names of God", I assumed you meant the Kaballah teaching that there are 72 names of God

Vav is a product of ashkenaszi pronunciations due to yiddish. Originally it's Waw. And the multiple names for God thing comes from Kaballah which certain groups of Jews actually do reject as mysticism and not originally being grom Judaism but added in after the second temple period due to the Zohar. Certain groups such as the Kairaites for example, even reject the Talmud, Mishnah, and Kaballah and stick to Torah and Tanakh only

I know that the post is a joke but in Hebrew, the name for God is Χ™Χ—Χ•Χ— which are the hebrew characters Yod Hei Waw Hei

I was having a conversation with my friend about this. We were discussing AI and she believes AI will destroy all of humanity just like so many others. I personally don't believe that. I'm aware of all the theories and the multitude of ways that it could happen and I understand that with AI, in theory we wouldn't understand its goals so we wouldn't know how it would destroy us but again, that's just a theory.

There's also the constant fear of massive nuclear holocaust with WWIII but I also don't believe that we'd realistically get to a point where we'd use Nukes on each other knowing the implications of what would happen. But it made me realize that we're constantly fearful of mass extinction. To the point where some people fight tooth and nail and will not try to look at things from a more positive or optimistic perspective. It's all death or you're wrong.

Please help me understand this. I'm here with open ears.

Everyone talks about Firefox. And that's cause Firefox is good and hands down the best. But I've been using Vivaldi which is chromium based for years. Anyone have any opinion on Vivaldi?

As someone who never used Sync before, trust me, it will spike like crazy. I don't know why I never used it before but this an amazing experience. If you're reading this and trying to find a Lemmy app to use and don't care about FOSS, get Sync ASAP

I'm not scared of him being in office because I have confidence that he won't be elected. I know the whole mindset on Reddit and Lemmy is fear of him being back in office but with more young voters who are overwhelmingly left leaning being able to vote, the Republicans shooting themselves in the foot overturning Roe V Wade, and all of the ass backwards policies they're putting in place, more people aren't gonna let this happen in 2024. But I understand the fear completely and it is justified

Projection at its finest. If they do it, they must believe the democrats and liberals are doing it because anything that's bad must be done by their opposition.

Trust. You really don't want to know...

I made a post about politics and got down voted liked crazy and they had to lock my post. There are small moments but it's being kept in check

Pineapple on pizza is actually good if you get Hawaiian. By itself is just a no

Just as the title suggest. Is there anyway we can prevent Lemmy from being such a giant sphere of political annoyance just like Reddit? No matter where you go on reddit before the API changes and even now, someone has to bring politics into it. Even in post or subreddits where it's not needed.

So once again, is there anyway we can stop that from happening and just allow the communities in Lemmy to be genuine?
